VGA help

Post by Jocaju »

I just got my first Dreamcast today(loving every second BTW), with it, I also bought a VGA adapter for the best picture quality, but I need help regarding the size of the screen, because I only get a small screen size on the center of my monitor/tv. Is that normal or there's a way to make it full screen?
With the AV cables I got the full screen. Sorry if this is a simple question, but I don't have any manual for either the system or VGA adapter and believe or not, today is the first time I'm seeing/touching a dreamcast.

what kind of monitor is it? if you want the best picture you need a monitor that supports 480p native. or in PC monitor terms it has to be 640x480. so if you have a new HDtv or HD PC monitor, the image is either going to be stretched or it will have black borders. this is because the monitors are wide screen. this has nothing to do with your VGA box or the Dreamcast. if you have an old CRT PC monitor hook the Dreamcast up to that using the VGA box. this is the best way to go. another side note, you might not be able to use a light gun on a new HD monitor too.

Hmm interesting. i wonder if anyone here has tried a light gun on a plasma or LCD tv?
is there any difference in quality between a basic VGA cable that has the male plug attached and a pro style VGA that you have to buy the vga cable yourself? (i will be running it into a plasma tv) maybe its in one of the FAQs but couldnt find it...
Gary maybe you know this one too? cheers

I'm not sure what your asking. i think you want to know the difference between the VGA cord and the VGA box? all the VGA cord has on it is a female VGA plug to connect a PC monitor and a headphone jack to plug in PC speakers or headphones. most if not all the VGA boxes have S-video and standard RCA AV connectors. the VGA box allows you to choose from any of the connection methods that the Dreamcast offers. S-Video, VGA, or standard AV.

i own a VGA cord. i am considering buying a VGA box too. i would like to get the system link and have two VGA monitors set up for head to head play. atm i can do this with the online games. but one is connected to my TV with dial up internet and the other Dreamcast is connected to a PC monitor using a PC-DC server. but enough about that.

it is my understanding that light guns won't work due to refresh rates. i read that this is the reason Nintendo included a sensor bar with the wii. if light guns worked with on new TV's i guess they would not have needed that sensor bar.

huh what came with samba? the sensor i am talking about came with every wii. it either sits above or below the TV. you specify where you have placed in the wii's options when you set up your wii console for the first time.

um what? what is HODD? also the sensor bar you guys are talking about is for the Dreamcast samba de amigo right? the wii did not need that. i think the Dreamcast used it for the maracas? also don't you have a LCD display mazonemayu? if so test it with a light gun and let us know if the gun functions correctly.

I already tried it a while ago, lightguns & lcd don't work; but reading this made me think of trying a gun game out (HODD = house of the dead btw ;) ), with the dreamcast sensor bar hooked up as well (pretty sure it won't work, but its worth the try)
