EGM's game rating system has always been 1-10 with in between .5 scores and 3 reward scores for solid and noteworthy titles: Silver,Gold, or Platinum. For many years, people took EGM's reviews VERY seriously. They believed it was the gospel.

For instance, Jet Set Radio Future on Xbox received 4 7.5 scores.

Sonic Adventure received 2 8.5 scores, 1 8.0, and 1 9.0. Which barely registered as EGM Gold.

Final Fantasy VIII received 4 9.0s earning a EGM Gold seal.

In regards to the 2002 Buyers Guide, I don't recall. I do remember Gamecube getting a higher score than Xbox.
