Are These Fake Game Boy Cartridges Or Just Unlicensed?

Post by alvin777 »

Hi. Are these fake cartridges or they are just unlicensed/unofficial but they are not fake? They all seem to have a green PCD if you look underneath the teeth or contacts. The light gray ones just have philips screws instead of the usual Game Boy cartridge screws:

Thank you. Belated Happy Easter.

By the way, what's the best way to clean the contacts with? They say alcohol since it's acid is corrosive, some say toothbrush and alcohol, some distilled water and toothbrush, some open it up and use a pink rough eraser (or should it be the smoother ones?), some use contact cleaners and a toothbrush or foam like Magic Eraser.

God bless, Rev. 21:4

The real carts also have "Nintendo GAME BOY" written on top.

Though there, it looks like they only say "GAME", just like some of the pirated Game Boy cartridges.

I say they're unlicensed. Did you try them in your Game Boy yet?

Hi. Thanks for the reply. They work well with the Game Boy Color. They are fakes then? Mark of the Wolves doesn't say Nintendo when it starts up.

The cartridges are too titled in those pictures to get a good view of the labels. If they don't have the Nintendo Seal of Quality logo on them, they're definitely fakes. Bootlegs generally avoid copying official logos.

You're welcome. Aleron Ives makes another point. If they do not have the Nintendo Seal of Quality logo on them, they are definitely pirated.

P.S. I'm not really a fan of Game Boy. Game Gear is better, IMO... 8-)
