Some questions about the DreamPi

I had a few questions about the DreamPi. I recently got my hands on a used viking dle-200b on ebay for 50 usd. It's the version with the dip switches covered by a red plate on the front: (https://gyazo.com/5b143d098f045ebbc6d79a3263191677) (there is one that has a grey plate for the dip switches which also has dip switches inside. mine has none inside as i have already opened it up and checked.). I wasnt sure whether I had to mess with the switches or anything. Can anyone here clarify what I'm supposed to do? And I also am not sure whether I need to plug the Ethernet for the DreamPi into an active router or I could just plug it into my computer which is connected to the router through wifi and it would work fine.
