Planetweb Down *Edit - Now back!

Post by Bob Dobbs »

For those who use the Dreamcast Planetweb Browser, it is sad to report that the site has been down since Sunday in the USA. Unlike the last time it went away, the main (non-Dreamcast) site is down. I recently checked out their main site and it appeared as if business was suffering.

The links are...
1. PC: http://www.planetweb.com
2. PC or Dreamcast: http://dreamcast.planetweb.com

At this point, the Planetweb browser of choice is the PW3.0 Smith/Google version (sponsered by DC-Talk and Kelloggs). Alas, yet another online blow to the Dreamcast community has befallen us.

I will continue to monitor this situation.
Regards,
Bob Dobbs

This comes at no surprise :( .

Planetweb seemed to still cared about the Dc last time I was in touch with them.

E-mails were sent to the CEO Ken Soohoo the first time it went down: http://dreamcast-talk.com/News/planetback.html

Maybe it is a simple problem again?

What does it affect exactly?

I used to go there, it was a bit outdated but it had great stuff.

The PW3.0 GD-ROM automatically goes to their web page upon connecting to the internet. Without the Planetweb home page, the Dreamcast browser will not work at all. The problem is that if it does not see that page first, it will not give you the option to surf anywhere else.

PW3.0 is the last NTSC/U browser and the only one that supports the BBA.

So it won't just tell you there's no site to be found and stop there without allowing you to look up another site?

Correct. We (Dreamcast-Talk.com) do have a version that works fine, it directs you to www.Google.com. Thanx, Smith. One of our most underrated members.

Indeed it is :D .

I e-mailed PlanetWeb to find out what the problem was. President and CEO, Ken Soohoo replied and said he found out the DNS entries were wrong so they just had to fix them. 8-)
