Slack springs in the analogue stick

Has anyone ever had slack springs on their DC analogue stick? I've got a controller which is a pain to use. The stick responds fine but won't recentre and flops around some but not all the way. Beyond that, the springs still keep it from the edges of its travel.

Is this fixable or am I looking at replacing the controller?

Ok. I found the problem. Looks like the previous owner wasn’t too gentle with it. Oh well. Seems I can pick one up for £5.
