questions about the GDEMU?

so i just bought a GDEMU clone. and i had a local retro game repair and sales shop mod my PSU to remove the 12 volt since its no longer needed. my question is this: is a 3d printed GDEMU tray really needed or required in terms of airflow or can i use my GDEMU without the tray?

Better to have it but you could cut out a bit of cardboard to do the same thing
