Ian, what are the max video settings for the 4xm player found on a few of the DreamOn disks?
It seems to play the matrix trailer fairly well.

If any1 wants to test the 4xm player that is included on one of the DreamOn disks..
I made a quick batch script to create a selfboot .cdi with the 4xm player and 4xm video on same disk.
It includes the matrix trailer.

here is the tools just have to read the included docs they work on windows 64bit and mov and avi can be converted .. you dont need to converted audio or video just open a video file with open video and converted

does both at the same time
axmcompress2.png
Direct open XVID in the tools converting to 4xm no fuss
640x480 video start out low bitrate move up till it stops working and find the best you can get proper dvd quality video but it takes up to 16 hours this is why we dont use it

That's about it I can included my new compiled bin of 4xm player if wanted

You must read the doc's proper and do exactly what it says then you can play 4xm right on your pc with no problems.. All i had to do with read them to convert and compile it using katana sdk11

To use the windows 4xm player this all you have to do
4Xm Properties
(c) 4x Technologies / 2000
----------------------------------

How to install the 4xm properties:
1 - Copy the 4xmprop.dll in your windows\system directory
2 - Double click on the 4xmprop.reg
3 - all done!

Now, you can right click on the 4xm and look at the details on the properties pannel. You'll see the bitrate, the screen parameters and all other things you want.
Then drop and drag a 4xm file on the 4xm_play.exe and it will play

that is awesome ian.
here is a newer version of 4xm tools included in TuxTheWise dc tools pack.

Tux ReadMe:

Code: Select all

4XM encoder used by some games (Toy Commander, Headhunter, Alone In The
Dark 4).

Extremelly slow, even for today's processor, and it's not multithread,
so you won't get advantage on multicore.

Potentially you could take advantage of multicore by executing more than
one instance of the encoder, but it tends to crash this way.

Good luck with it :)

I think only the newer version doesn't play well on Dreamcast... but I'm
including here anyway since it's hard to find, and I'm not sure about
this information.
