Dreamcast Engines

Post by PhiseJr »

In the forum post about those wanting to develop for the dreamcast, there's not much talk about available engines for the dreamcast. Has the development for dreamcast not improved that much over the years ? I know they have a few like the Captain Dreamcast Dolmexica, There's Makaqu, OpenBOR, nxquake, Stimulant, Titan. I also know alot of these engines arent 100% since i've last been in tune with the scene but i haven't also been around for a while. any updates on available engines?

Whatcha looking for in one?

Integrity is mine and I use it for small games and prototyping ideas. It more is a framework to write games on top of and doesn't actually provide much in the way of forcing any style.

Just simple, windowing, input, and asset management.

I've been dabbling in Godot, There was someone who spoke on making that engine possible for the dreamcast but it didnt seem to get any steam.

The engine works for a lot of playforms has 2d and 3d capabilities, and its open source. Sega even recently used it for a Sonic Game, the game was buggy but the engine is constantly being updated currently working on 4.0 version.

The dreamcast honestly made me want to make video games, ive been more on the art and design side of games and been buckling down on programming to get some prototypes up and running. But though ive looked at making these games available for the PC i still haven't forgotten about the Dreamcast.

I've considered OpenBOR on some cases. I wanted to use the Dolmexica Engine, Makaqu, Even spoke with the Rizzo Island Developer on his project. But im also making this post on finding any new resources. I think its hard to find any updated working sources.
