Dreamcast and Spine Animation.

Post by PhiseJr »

I've been looking around to find ways to develop my artwork as I'm looking for a certain aesthetic with the game idea I've been working on. I came across the mobile game "Street Fighter: Duel" and it reminded me of a method of animation called Spine, where it would use high quality pictures attach them to a skeleton to then animate them. Now i know the Dreamcast has low resolution and i think 60fps isn't common for development. So I'm looking for a optimal sprite resolutions, to create my art in. I did come to realize that this might not be an ideal method for the dreamcast.

Nothing is stopping you from making clean hires [ for dc era) sprites. You could look at games on the dc that use huge sprites like doraemon or tako no marine for their characters. To look for multi layered sprites animated by bone you can alway go check the sprite sheets for muramasa on the wii or odins sphere on ps2. These two machines run nearly at the same rez as dreamcast. Some of the super robot wars on ps2 / psp have dumped model sheets and use the same animation systems if you want more research.

This was to show clean hi res sprites are possible on the system. I figure you could visualize your style. I guess if not then more examples of more detailed sprites animated layer by layer.
