Sega System SP - The Final Dreamcast Era Arcade Machine

Post by Bob Dobbs »

I never heard of this until today. According to Sega Retro, this 2005 arcade console was based on the Dreamcast/NAOMI. From 2005 to 2014 it had 19 games on it. I have not done ANY research beyond the link below, so this would be a good time to put a harpoon through this console if this is beyond the Dreamcast's ability to play System SP games on it (link below).

Games:
Dinosaur King (2005)
Touch De Zunou (2006)
100 & Medal Geki Kazaan!! (2012)
100 & Medal Gingaan!! (2014)
100 & Medal Hyozaan!! (2012)
Battle Dash (2008)
Battle Police (2009)
Brick People (2009)
Disney Magical Dance (2008)
Ehonnotamago (2009)
Future Police Patrol Chase (2009)
Issyo ni Turbo Drive (2008)
Issyo ni Wanwan Waiwai Puppy (2008)
Issyo ni Wanwan (2007)
Love and Berry: Dress Up and Dance! (2004)
Marine & Marine (2008)
Monopoly The Medal: 2nd Edition (2008)
Monopoly The Medal (2005)
Tetris Giant (2009)

I got hipped to this system only in the last year or so when I saw it profiled on the DC Junkyard
https://www.thedreamcastjunkyard.co.uk/ ... art-5.html

Seems that most of the games are more novelties (tetris with a giant joystick, children's rides, etc) rather than serious arcade games like on the naomi or atomiswave hardware. I've never even heard of a dreamcast emulator even emulating this system. Have any game roms been dumped for it?

Here's pics of many of the games...

System sp has been emulated on pc via demul for many years now. Dont knock the tetris its pretty and actually better than the sega wow on the dreamcast. Dino king is actually an interesting take ib rock paper scissors. I think its worth a port but realistically its probably too much work because its more like naomi that dreamcast..

Wasn't Dino King in a Yakuza game in the SEGA Arcades? Pretty sure I've seen and played that on there.

The Sega System SP would be an accurate board to work on a port but there is only two games (Cool Riders seems the best, an Outrunners style game added it presents sound issues: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qwb_OWuuC6I)

Its a naomi with compact flash ( and i think non jvs controls). So same issues apply. It's unlikely to be ported to dreamcast.

Idont get it? Cool riders is not system sp.

Ypu are right Cool Riders is a SEGA H1 board's game, an intermediate board capacity between Model 1 and 2
