the one article actually said that infogrames designed the engine from the ground up for the Dreamcast. but as i said i cant prove it. all i can do is report on what others have claimed.

@mazonemay: Cosmic Smash is FUN too. Theres nothing like being Mega-man and blowing up robots in 3D!!

And wow thats a lot of shapes!
LEmans did not look superior. (to me on my TV with my eyes)
But I Think Soul Caliber and Jet Grind Radio look the best from the games I've tried. I know nothing about PPS or TPS or even to much about FPS. But its good to know what games are the best tech wise. So thanks for the info guys...

How can you tell how many PPS? an emulator or something?

Yeah, you can extract the frame while the game is running. And if that gary_b wants to continue being blind he should fire of an emulator and run lemans and look at the vert count. 600,000 verts - 1 million verts at 30fps is not 5 million triangles. If anything most of the time the vert count is higher than the triangle count or sometimes is somewhat lower. For example the author of makaron game trigger heart polygon count, stating it was 44000 per frame at 33000 verts per frame at 60 fps.

I thought so too, I actually tried all the games that looked good and was thoroughly disappointed with the numbers I was getting per frame.Even 1st party(sega) games were not running at 3 million polygon per second.U can tell I love the dreamcast so you could imagine my disappointment.I am no programmer or anything Iam just using my logic.Would I believe some hype article that sounds fishy or go fnid out for myself.

Indeed dead or alive has good models, just compare the hands of the chars in PSO, soul calibur and dead or alive.

Dead or alive has for sure a higher poligon count, soul calibur has less.
PSO has even less poligons on the char, but the game has alot more effects and while soul calibur or dead or alive can show 2 chars on screen, PSO can show up to 4.
With such a char count no wonder sonic team modified the game when they released pso ver.2

i wish you would not call me blind, i think your blind. this game has the best visuals that i have seen on the system hands down. as for your emulator bullshit, for all i know the emulator is fucking up the graphics and if you play on the normal hardware you might get different numbers? but just for the hell of it tell me what emulator your using and if it will run on my old single core computer ill give it a try.

Just run nulldc, dont even extract anything just run lemans, and look at the vert count. Most of the time it runs at 0.6 million verts(600,000) if not just a little bit higher. Then run say oh trigger heart or the floigen brothers or even wacky races and look at the MAJOR difference.I dont mean to insult you but I diasagree when you say lemans is the best looking game hands down.I love the dreamcast as much as you but come on lets not kid ourselves, the machine was not running at 5 mpps.
You do realize the emulator runs things smoother than the real hardeware right? for example when I boot up debug version of grandia 2 on a real dc it can barely go over 20,000 triangles(I used the debug to check how much was on screen) on the scene without causing graphical glitches while on the emu it allows me to up 30,000 triangles in the scene b4 it crashes, and the game runs at 30fps, it shouldnt crash at 20,000 triangles in the scene should it?20,000 x 30fps=600,000 pps)

.Maybe it could had reached 3mpps more constantlysomeone really invested alot of time and money on r&d on it.

Thats true it does display more characters on screen.I believe some guy made an extractor for skies of arcadia and phantasy star and I havent tried but I would bet that phantasy star chars wouldnt be more than 1,000-1,500 while dead or alive characters are around 8,000-10,000( per character). How many pso characters can you fit with do2 polycount then?I wonder what made sega be somewhat conservative on their own hardware? time or money maybe?Maybe anti aliasing plus texture filtering + game code took a toll on how much it could display at a steady frame rate?

Maybe not the best pic of neither but just a simple comparison on the vert counts per second (its on top of the emu screenshot.)This is just running the emu no extracting.
