And no regrets - so far.

I get the reservations but I just couldn't take the original din of the stock fan any longer. No issues to date but I'm rarely on the Dreamcast for more than an hour or two a week. Might be a different story if you're doing a 8 hour grind on PSO.

Yeah I don't think anyone's ever talked about it, and I'm speaking anecdotally, but yes, holding your hand by the exhaust vent...you can feel how weak the flow of air is compared to the stock "noisy" fan. I've even tried it on 4 different consoles just to be sure.

What's a few CFM here or there? It's less noise so they just go ahead because people on the internet just regurgitate stuff ad nauseum

I have a noctua fan inside mine. The dreamcast never got any hot, so even if the new fan only moves not as fast, its more than enough. I play a lot of dreamcast and often let the console ON for hours and beeing afk. The old fan is crap. Theres no need to not change it, besides beeing an 100% retroguy.

Its not that the console gets hot and overheats with the fan mod. Only time will tell what the decreased ventilation does to the already 23 year old internal components (i.e. capacitors). These things were carefully engineered by people way smarter than us.

I hope I'm wrong but we will see in the coming years.

Very true .. None of the after market crap has a patch on the stock things sega made for it..

Reminds me of people with honda civic's putting after market crap on it like fart cannon's thinking there going faster..

Old fan was not crap thse china crap will never last 20 years lol..

you are absolutely right. I ended up putting a single drop of mineral oil in the stock fan's motor shaft and it helped ALOT.

I ended up putting the Noctua fan in my Gamecube which is quieter and works just as good as stock since the same exact 0.5A rating

Very true? Lol. The noctua fans are made in austria. The only crap fan is the sega one. Hold them side by side and u can see/ feel the difference in production quality.

U know, as much as i love the dreamcast and sega, but many of their stuff was NOT well engineered compared to their rival companies. Talking about the error prone disc-drive, a VMU which batteries die once u plug them into your controller, the saturn board and the list goes on.

Its not a bad thing, that the system is flawed, so i dont see a reason to protect it.
