Hey guys, I saw a cheap game gear here in my country, as the following picture shows it is not working, but it turns on.
My question is, is this a "usual" game gear problem? I'm thinking on buying it if there is a way to repair it, I'm not an expert at repairing at all, but I've done some jobs before on almost every retro console I own from NES to sega saturn, so I know basic soldering, reflowing, cleaning, instaling simple chips, etc.
I know there are a lot of problems comming form the capacitors on this devices, but I have no idea if someone have seen this particular kind of image with the caps problem.
Thanks in advance, here is the picture the seller uploaded.
Help with game gear, should I try to repair it?

Re: Help with game gear, should I try to repair it?
A friend gave me his game gear to try and repair recently, it won't turn on at all and has no picture. I'm reading that a lot of times they need capacitor replacements. I bought a replacement kit but it is beyond my skill to solder these tiny caps. Would it be cheaper to buy replacement boards and just rebuild the whole thing? Is that even an option? In comparison to just buying a new/used game gear. Thanks! pikashow apk

You should try your best to repair it, it might seem out of your reach but the skills required are not as big as you may think. You can learn some new skills and since it is already not working there is no downside to at least trying.netaji73q wrote:A friend gave me his game gear to try and repair recently, it won't turn on at all and has no picture. my soldering job was a failure but you never know till you try, worst comes to worse you can find a service that'll do it for you.

Gamegear is a nightmare to maintain, because the capacitors tend to leak in the medium term. If it leaks and is not cleaned and the capacitors replaced immediately, it can irreversibly damage the board. It is not a easy handheld to have in your collection.
