To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Dreamcast, The Dreamcast Junkyard has finally put out the results for its 2022 community votes for the Top 200 Dreamcast Games!
Featuring impassioned write-ups from the DCJY team, as well as Derek Pascarella (aka ateam), Dreamcast Enjoyer, James Brown/SkillJim (from Shenmue Dojo), Matt Oliver (from Shenmue Dojo), Patrick Traynor (from Sega Saturn, SHIRO!), PC Wizard, Pizza Hotline, Retro Faith and Video Game Esoterica.
Interested to hear what you think of the rankings this time round!
VANISHING POINT
The graphics are far better than PS1 (just try the PS1 version of Vanishing Point to see that), but perhaps the point was that they are quite simple geometrically and texture wise. Still, they more detailed and complicated than Ridge Racer PS1. I think it's an astonishing arcade-like experience at 60fps. It plays better with some third party controllers that have different stick travel compared to the official controller. Also, Clockwork Games made more than 1 other game. Sure they made Lemmings 3D, but most notably Speedster (aka BattleRound USA, Speedster) on PS1 which is sort of like a top down Vanishing Point in a way. Anyway, glad to see this on the list.
SUPER RUNABOUT
The NTSC version of this plays so much better than the PAL version, which I had avoided for years. It's still a very Japanese game, and a little bit odd, but I would say if the frame rate was the major problem you had with it then give the USA version another go. My 2nd favourite in the series, with my favourite being Runabout 2 on PS1.
My top 10, in alphabetical order.
- Bangai-O
- Jet Set Radio
- Mars Matrix: Hyper Solid Shooting
- Ooga Booga
- Power Stone 2
- Rayman 2: The Great Escape
- Rez
- San Francisco Rush 2049
- Super Runabout
- Vanishing Point

Thanks for reading and for the tips - didn’t realise the PAL version of Super Runabout had more issues than others! Also an awesome top 10
I always really enjoy these lists even if they don't align with the general consensus or my own tastes - they're a great way of discovering new games. That being said, there are some wacky placings that I just have to question. The Grinch above Marvel vs Capcom? PenPen Triicelon above Unreal Tournament??
Unfortunately I must have narrowly missed entering, so here is my personal top 10 for posterity:
I'm glad to hear about the list of top 200 Dreamcast games! The Dreamcast holds a special place in many people's hearts and I'm sure there were some heated debates during the voting process.
