8bitdo just keeps getting weirder...

Post by MoeFoh »

On pre-order is their new 3-mode controller.

For the xbox mode it only works wired!

PC uses the 2.4g adapter or wired.

Android uses Bluetooth.

The MS has prohibited third-party companies from producing wireless controls for the XBOX because some companies allowed you to mod the controller for cheating on games.

Modding can't be done for a wired one?

Additionally for why wireless 3rd party Xbox controllers are rare is that Xbox consoles use a propriety wireless protocol to sync controllers. Most 3rd parties do not have access to the Xbox wireless protocol hence why so many 3rd party Xbox controllers work only wired to a Xbox console including officially licensed ones such as 8bitdo. Below are several articles. The 1st one is about modding a Dualsense controller to work with a Xbox through the use of a battery pack. The 2nd article is a link explaining Microsoft's banning unauthorized 3rd party controllers in more detail. The final article is a PowerA controller that is the 1st officially licensed 3rd party Xbox controller. It is not cheap, retailing for $129.99 (USD).

Interesting how Microsoft allowed the use of a 2.4g dongle to provide wireless for the xbox arcade stick. Probably won't see something like this with controllers, yes?

I'm still waiting for them to make an OG Xbox adapter. That would be the best.

I can confirm that the 8bitdo Ultimate Bluetooth controller works on the Xbox Series X with the Mayflash Magic-X adapter in wired mode. Just played Daytona USA with it. I will do more testing on more 8bitdo controllers and see if it works with them wireless during the weekend.

The following 8bitdo controllers work with the Xbox Series X with the Mayflash Magic-X adapter in both Bluetooth and wired mode (I could not get 2.4g mode to work with the Magic-X):

1. 8bitdo ultimate Bluetooth controller
2. 8bitdo M30 Bluetooth controller
3. 8bitdo Arcade Stick
