VPNs
I currently have access to 2 software VPNs (Malwarebytes and Privado), but is there such thing as a hardware VPN? I know my ASUS and TP-Link access points have VPN capabilities but unsure if this creates a hardware VPN or if it just references my software VPN to create the connection.

Re: VPNs
Hi,
Yes, there is some VPN providers that allows you to set up in some modern Routers with OpenVPN client option.
The VPNs you have seems to be just software options, yes.
Depends on what is your purposes of use.

Re: VPNs
Purpose? To conceal and hide, man...
Did a little more digging and because these are configured as Access Points and not routers, the VPN option is null and void via the hardware. I didn't intend on it, but I have a rag-tag makeshift mesh wifi setup. I'll eventually upgrade and do it right, but for the time being I have multiple SSIDs (6 I think) on my LAN. My house was built in 1961 and forsome reason has multiple dead zones. It's shaped like a giant, "U," but even with repeaters and APs, there's still dead zones, which is totally weird considering... I ended up running hard line wherever possible, but I have something like 80 devices online at any given time (12 security cameras, 8 Smart TVs (Roku, Fire and Android), 9 computers, 19 online gaming systems, 4 phones, 4 tablets, 3 printers, 2 NAS's, 5 Direct TV receivers, a smart fridge, a smart air purifier, a smart garage door opener, 2 Alexas, a Google Nest Hub Smart Display, a smart thermostat, a smart water heater, 2 Chromecasts, 3 APs and a repeater + 2x 16 port switches and other stuff I can't think of at the moment).

Re: VPNs
I said purpose because if you wanted to use it for the Dreamcast, I would recommend a VPN that has the OpenVPN protocol, like PureVPN.

Re: VPNs
Well Multiple SSIDs are a problem they will compete with each other if your property is larger you would want a Mesh System. If you have Ethernet Backhaul for Wireless you would want to use that or Install a MOCA System. (I use it at my home it works great). If you are trying to VPN all of this traffic through a Provider for "security" you can install pfsense etc and make it a vpn client and tunnel all the traffic to that provider. There are other security options you can look at as well.Cjnuxoll wrote: ↑Sat Jun 01, 2024 2:34 am Purpose? To conceal and hide, man...

Re: VPNs
Doesn't work that way Generation of Wifi and Radio does. For example if SSID A B and C all have different names but are all on channel 1 for example they are overlapping and interfering with each other. Based on Generation and Width of the SSID it causes overlap. Some Mesh Systems can help that but just hosting different SSIDs doesn't.
