Dial-tone question...

Post by turtlepower_1986 »

Using a custom dreamcast browser CD, I can get online and can hit google.com no problem. Using the dreamcast browser cd 1.0, I can get connected my dialup connection.

My settings are blind dialing set to YES.
I'm using a home built voltage line inducer.
I don't think it's really part of the problem considering how I can actually get to google with the custom browser, but I'm using a physical pentium 3 dell with win98 installed. I'm pretty sure it's a win modem, but not entirely sure on that. The fact that I could get connected and get to google made me not really worry about that.

My problem is quake 3 just won't even try to connect to my ISP settings because of 'no dial tone'. PSO can get connected but errors out before I can hit a server. I suspect that is because I'm just getting into the private server stuff and probably need a specific DNS server to connect to one of those. Quake 3 though, it just won't even connect to get the no master server error. Anybody know if NTSC dreamcast modem is hella picky about the voltage it looks for??? I know I could do a Pi, and/or a VM, but I'm kind of a retro computer person too, so that's why I chose this path. Thanks in advance.

Dial tone generation is what you will need at the moment and you won't have it without an extra feature if you are using the classic PC-DC system for Windows 98.

Below is a suggestion for a dial tone generator, in addition to this you will need an RJ11 hub.

Most games don't support blind dial.

Thank you for your reply. I eventually did more research and discovered that Quake 3 doesn't do blind dialing. I appreciate you giving the suggestions for tricking the DC with a dial tone!
