Built using my version of the postal engine; Yes or No?
It'd be a tonne of work for an exclusive. so if there's not much call for it then there's probably something else I'd be better of doing instead. I was working on a build of Turok based on the n64 code, but I'd never be able to release it, so there's no point.

Welcome back Dan. I would love another dungeon crawler for our system. But you should do what best fits your time and schedule. Maybe if you had a few more volunteers to help lower the workload...

Re: Dungeon Crawler? Y/N
I'll probably take the lack of enthusiasm as a no then. I had a bit of an itch to do something original for the system, after taking some time away, but the reality is that DC exclusive games/features are far too much effort for such a long defunct platform - I learned that the hard way and I don't wish to repeat it.
A Turok port would have been a gimmick unless I added couch coop and I probably would have got a "telliing off" for basing it on the n64 code.
I guess it's time to hang up my twinstick for good and move into something new. Take care DC folk

A dungeon crawler would be a welcome addition to the library.
The biggest challenge I see is the same problem RPG development has. The economics of XP and leveling, evenly pacing out growth of gear, attributes, and abilities. Then there's art and dialog. A "renaissance man" might cover several of these disciplines, but it really takes a team to do everything, and playtest it all.

Re: Dungeon Crawler? Y/N
Please tell us more about the project. The setting, the game loop, the art style. A dungeon crawler sounds interesting, especially on a console. Starting the game, picking up the controller and fight your way through endless dungeons (if its based on medival theme). I'm not a huge fan of rouge-like games but when they are executed correctly (like Deep Rock Galactic) it can be a ton of fun. Or maybe just a "simple" Diablo-like game. Add (local) coop to it, polish the gameplay and you might have something big on your hand.
Let me just say it that way: ...you have my axe (and founding)!
I guess the best time to develop for DC is now! The community is more than active. More and more people are coming back or discovering the Dreamcast for the first time. The tools are getting better and better. There are SO many projects are on the horizon... GTA 3, Sonic Mania, (advanced port of) Doom 64, HarleQuest, Mario 64, Cyborg Force, Duke Nukem 3D, Diablo 1, Shadow Gangs, Xash 3D, ClassiCube, the growing OpenGL branch, SDL2... and all the other projects I just forgot.
I guess the "lack of enthusiasm" in this thread is because of the after effects of the global Dreamcast 25th anniversary party.
Give it a bit time and the interest will grow. Especially when more info about the project will pop up.

Re: Dungeon Crawler? Y/N
I think any game would be greatly appreciated and it would be wonderful to get some more mileage out of all the hard work you put in to the engine.
I bought the PAL version when it came out and really enjoyed playing through the game
That said i did think it would have been cool to have a game telling a cool 'story' in that game world but I guess it would be a lot work to really develop that.
I mean even changing it to be a zombie squashing game would be cool too.
Bottom line is you did great work originally and it would be brilliant to play something else if you decide to go ahead with it

Re: Dungeon Crawler? Y/N
A zombie Survial game like Project Zomboid or Dysmantle...? I like that idea too. But maybe something more "causal" and easy to pick up for hours. The goal would be to reach something particual. Gather enough resources to (re)build a bridge, a boat or reach a save area. To avoid using a SD card to save all of your progress - the only things that needed to be stored on the VMU are your inventory/backpack and the stuff in your (small) safe house. The rest can be (randomly) restocked every day and the map is either based on a seed system (maybe from a pool of presets) or fixed map. Would that be possible @DanRedfield ?runkthepunk wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2024 3:59 amI mean even changing it to be a zombie squashing game would be cool too.

Thanks for the kind words, it's genuinely very gracious of you and I appreciated it.
OK, how about a postal clone set in Brexit Britain? (Christ, that would not go down at all well with a LOT of people lol)
