Sadly, only got one person to join me for a game last night and they were on for a matter of seconds before the end of the game and a “server failure” error.
Did have quite a few connection interrupted errors displayed whilst playing last night and the occasional server failure too, server is fine when you go back to the master server list (I’ve noticed other servers doing this over recent years and I think it used to occur back in the day too).
I connected via PC as well as my DC at the same time and my PC would also give the occasional connection interrupted error as well with my DC in spectator mode.
Should I increase the max rate back to its original value, as I don’t have this issue before changing it?
Also I’m still waiting to see how it runs with four people actually playing on it!

Sure just set sv_maxrate 0 which is default . Considering you have 1 server the sv_maxrate wouldnt matter anyway.
Sorry nobody showed. Maybe try scheduling a game of q3 on the weekends you may have better luck

I’ll try max rate at 0.
No worries about no-one turning up. I’ll try and get a game organised with a few people in the coming weeks.
I *think* people are playing on the server…

Had a good few games with Alex Koban from here the other night whilst I was playing on PC.
Had a lot of connection interrupted issues whilst playing but I think this was down to my TV streaming service eating up all the bandwidth during the evening.
When everything was stable the game played great.
Also set the sv_maxrate back to 12000 today.

Hi again guys,
The server seems to keep throwing connection interrupted frequently when I’m playing on it via pc. This occurs when it’s just me and a bot or when other human players have connected.
Is there anything I can do to stop this from happening?

Re: Running a PC Quake 3 Server For Dreamcast In 2024
Had a bit of a google and found this which I inserted into the autoexec file in the server machine and the pc I use to play quake 3:
seta rate "25000"
seta snaps "40"
seta cl_maxPackets "125"
seta cl_packetdup "1"
seta cl_timeNudge "-12"
seta cl_allowDownload "0"
seta cg_smoothClients "0"

This seems to have sorted out the persistent connection interrupted issue when playing on pc and everything seems cool again.
Tested on my DC and seems fine too apart from the the one or two connection interrupted errors that occurred as well as server failure on one occassion. As mentioned previously, not too fussed as the games ran fine and this has always happened in my experience on various servers from way back when the game was originally released to in contemporary times on DreamPi.
Oh and has anyone figured out to display message of the day yet?

Forgot to mention. Before putting the above code into my autoexec file, the jump/rumble pack wouldn’t work on my controller whilst playing online on my server but would work on other servers online.
Since using the above code, the rumble pack now works when I’m playing on my server. Coincidence???

Video of the server in action with various players connecting and running 3 and 4 player games:

Really happy how it went, only got connection interrupted with four players towards the end but the game did recover and still ran which is good. This is something I’ve experienced since 2001 playing quake 3 on DC via dialup on a 33k modem and more recently in dreampi, so I’m not too worried.
Many thanks to Holsten for all the games and support!

Thanks for the game on Sunday Hadyn, great fun!
Just one thing I noticed in your recording. I was using the Doom player skin for that game I joined you in, and "Noname" was showing as Doom on my end as well. Is there a mix up occurring with the player models?
