how can i back up VMU save data?

Post by justlikecherrycola »

hi, hi!

i recently got hold of a VMU and i'd like to archive the save data on it before i delete/overwrite it. is there an easy way to do this?
my dreamcast and VMU are both completely unmodded; i don't have anything fancy but i do have a way to burn disks if needed

Best known methods require some hardware, unfortunately.
  • Dreamshell and Serial SD reader.
  • Email if you have dreampi setup. Some saves are flagged as virus by gmail for no reason (.SYS is one)
  • Copy to Brook Wingman SD adapter, USB4MAPLE, VM2, or Nexus 4MB Memory Card. Then transfer to PC.
If you want, you can always run it by us check if you're deleting any rare or useful saves. (Yes, there is some "lost" data out there). It's worthwhile to burn Blueswirl's "VMU TOOL" CD which has a ton of great saves for the more popular games. VMU Tool is also used for copying to other VMU, even bypassing copy locks. Without other hardware, at best, you're just copying to another VMU.

connect 2 VMU's physically together and copy data from one to the other is a simple way as well
