I was hoping there would be compatibility fixes for USB 3.x thumb drives in the new firmware. Lost count on the number of USB 3.x thumb drives I have tried and never successfully got working. Since the firmware update I tried some of the ones I have here and no change in compatibility. Brand new USB 2.x thumb drives of any appreciable capacity are getting harder to source...

You're better off finding a compatible USB 2.0 SD card reader and then just leveraging high-capacity SD cards, in my opinion.

If you check MNEMO's website he amended the following to include USB 3.1...

Code: Select all

- supported USB 2.0 and USB 3.1
Compatibility improvements with USB 3.x thumb drives would have been a nice addition...

I'm a little afraid of upgrading because of the older firmwares that contained expiring code. I don't think the new firmware as that problem, but I'm just a bit afraid none the less.
It's very nice to be able to backup/restore saves, but I think I won't install the new firmware for now.

About USB 3.x compatibility, shouldn't all 3.x devices be 100% compatible with 2.0 and 1.1 ports? Is it just crappy brands that are not backwards compatible?
boquetipo wrote: Sat Jul 27, 2024 7:16 am So crazy. The problem comes from video signal. If I play in LCD monitor, the controller input is recognized:

That is really strange. Could it be some kind of electrical problem with the VGA box you have? I have a knock off VGA box that I don't use because it works terribly, it even freezes the console some times.

Hi. Regarding my problem with Sports Jam, Mnemo asked me to sent him my board, and he sent me a new one. He seems to be unsympathetic in emails, but on the other hand, he is trustworthy.

As for now, I cannot tell if the problem persists, but I'm sure it's ok, since Xiden told me he had no problem at all.

About the power supply 12v mod...

One 1/4 watts 300 ohms is not good : P=U²/R -> 12²/300=0.48w.
The version using 3x1k ohms 1/4w is OK (0.144w per resistor).

Did your replacement unit arrive? Sports Jam is working fine here on latest firmware. I never tested it on older versions though.

I put together a little "quick patch" utility for USB-GDROM users who want to enable the VGA flag on their GDIs without having to extract/rebuild them.

Hopefully it serves as a convenience for some of you :)

Note that this does nothing to apply "special patches" to the games listed here: https://consolemods.org/wiki/Dreamcast: ... nd_Patches
