DCDigital and displaying intended picture

Post by jasonseeb »

First, hello, as this is my first OP post on this forum.

I have a DCDigital HW2 running in DV1 mode to a Retrotink4K. I noticed many games have black/unused rows or columns of pixels. Even the same game between 480i and 480p will be slightly different.

Is this where overscan came into play on CRTs, and you wouldn't see a certain amount of information because it would essentially zoom in?

If that is so, how do I account for this on my monitor? Do I crop a percentage of pixels on all four sides?

My main goal is to display what was intended.

You can just crop/zoom on the RT4K to mimic CRT overscan, if that's what you're after. You can also auto-crop at any time to 4:3 with the AUX2 button (https://consolemods.org/wiki/AV:RetroTINK-4K#Auto_Crop).

Yea, I was looking to mimic the CRT overscan. I was also in a discussion with some people in a discord, letting me know that the unused rows of pixels would have also shown on an adequately calibrated PC CRT monitor. At least I know I have options.
