A game hack that enables light gun games playable on new TVs? Is it possible?

Post by ekapkin »

Hello all,

I have just tried rom hacks for NES that enables to play light gun games on my new flat screen and it all worked great! I was looking for a solution and I encountered with http://neslcdmod.com/roms/ I downloaded their rom files put it on my Everdrive and I bought cheap light gun for NES and I was able to play and hunt some ducks. As far as I understand, the rom hacker played with the codes of the games and add a feature to adjust timing of the screen that turns the screen black and white when hitting the light gun's button so then the led sensor captures the the hit or not.

It is always great to play these games on CRT but I wonder whether the same technic is possible for dreamcast light gun games or not? I search a lot but couldn't find a good solution except hacked light guns (with Wii controller). It would be amazing play light gun games with original hardware? Maybe coders here might like to give it a try?

Thanks for keep dreaming!

There was a version of Nester on Dreamcast that was supposed to have limited light gun support. Version 7.1+ if i remember correctly. I was never able to get it working with my setup. I am wondering if these rom hack versions of the NES games would help out.
It has been a very long time since I assembled a CDI, but I may need to relearn the process to try it out!
