I've been reading the "Best graphics" thread with interest. And lots of people would love a VGA box. I'm not in a position to get a VGA box, but then again I've always wanted to play my DC on a larger screen (so that Crazy Taxi has that whole arcade feel).
So here's my question. A Dreamcast god appears and offers you an enormous TV (60" plasma or something insane) or a VGA box and a 20" monitor. Which one do you pick?
(Please note that the Dreamcast god will not allow you to sell the TV, buy a VGA adaptor and pocket the change)
VGA, or huge naff-off screen?

Re: VGA, or huge naff-off screen?
I say if its a fullhd lcd or led tv, go for that (no experience with plasma, although I think there's not much difference).
some will say the image on a 20" monitor is a little more crisp (only logical since its only 20"
), but imo a hdtv really does wonders for the colours & more if you've been gaming for hours on a monitor, your eyes feel ready to jump out of their sockets.
however you'll need a vgabox/cable to play on a monitor. as for a hdtv, you can hook up your dc with the regular cable, but it looks like shit (as with all last gen consoles)
so you need a vga box/cable either way.

Re: VGA, or huge naff-off screen?
Thats the trade off I was thinking of, VGA with monitor, or TV with standard cable (wasn't aware you could use VGA cable with hdtv)
Would you be willing to cut the quality of the graphics just for the sake of an enormous screen?
(To be honest I just want someone to say yes to the above question just so I don't feel quite so shallow.

its not cutting the quality m8, I play my dc on a 32" hdtv, through vga & crazy taxy looks at least as good (if not better) as in the arcade imo

Re: VGA, or huge naff-off screen?
I have played my DC on my brothers 42" Sony Bravia LCD tv, sans VGA box, and it looks blury as all get out! When I play the DC on the 27" CRT SD Tv, it looks more crisp, only because it is a smaller screen.
I have seen these great videos of DC running on a VGA box on a large HD Tv, and it looks quite good, albeit it's not in 1080p, but it still cleans some things up, and the colors pop.
I have a 20" LCD monitor, and I guess I could do with a VGA box, but I just need to take the plunge.
So to answer you question, hmm, would I rather take a 60" HD TV, and no VGA box, or a VGA on my 20" monitor? I guess I would have to say VGA on my 20". I know firsthand how shitty SD games look when blown up on the big screen, and the wii does a pretty shitty job of it nowadays.
BTW, lol, I had to look up what the hell "naff" meant, as we don't use much British slang over here in Texas, guess its cause we seperated from ye a few hundred years to early for us to have many of yer slang words.
"'Naff' referred to people who were not part of the homosexual community, it being an acronym for 'Not Available For F****ing' or 'Normal As F***'."
Wtf haha. I am not making this up! Got it from UK Yahoo answers!

The games look great on all three of my LCD TV with the VGA. The composite feed does not look as good as VGA, but it still looks great.

Re: VGA, or huge naff-off screen?
I had no idea I could hook up to my 42" LCD with VGA. I'm still in scart world. Time to seriously start searching for a VGA box.
If you tell people now how the word naff originated, I've found that they suddenly stop using it.
Lol. Yes this is how the phrase originated, but Britain has forgotten where it came from. Naff in the UK just means rubbish or c**p.Anthony817 wrote: Wtf haha. I am not making this up! Got it from UK Yahoo answers!![]()
