Damn shame there’s no way to buy the official firmware for clones so we could put cash in the palms of the OG creator without him ever having to build any more pucka gdemu’s.

The newest 5.20.x clones can be flashed with the official firmware, actually. Has been verified multiple times.

There hasn't been a sale of authentic GDEMUs in at least two years. Parts shortage, as well as the creator (Deunan) being quite busy with other things has prevented it. While the pandemic-induced parts shortage is largely no longer an issue, he's still found himself incredibly busy.

If you visit his website (https://gdemu.wordpress.com/) and leave a comment on any of his posts, you can choose to subscribe to the blog so that you receive email updates on any new post, which is how he would announce a sale window.

It may be a long time, if ever, before there's another batch of GDEMUs available, so a 5.20.x clone off Aliexpress or similar may be the only option for people, at least for now. I wish this weren't the case, as I NEVER want to support these clone companies, but sadly the Dreamcast scene is left with no other choice if they want a GDEMU specifically.

The good news is that people have had a lot of success with the 5.20.x clones as of late.

Am really no fan of these shops.you never know what you get.
Any recommendations there? And they still don't work with the first version of the Dreamcast because of to high voltage. Right? So I would need to modify mine I guess

Regarding VA0 support, consensus is mixed as to whether or not mod is truly necessary. I can't comment further.
