What do you mean not dial? If it doesn't even dial out then it is probably broken.

You can get one here for a dollar: http://www.goatstore.com/Products/Sega/ ... 196/Modem/

Or you can get this one for nine dollars including shipping: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... %26otn%3D2
Its a type A modem so it doesn't require a Line Voltage Inducer

I am currently attempting this. I just configured the DC. I just brought the XP machine back from the dead. Next, I have to do the rest of the guide thing.

Two questions:
1. The modem - I have an external "Dr. US Robotnics" 56k model...will this work? I do have an internal Rockwell modem with a 15pin, 3.5mm (1/8" Stereo for USA people) as well as the two RJ11 phone jacks.

2. Has anyone been successful with this before I continue?

Input needed!!!

Note: "Dr. US Robotnics" = US Robotics...just couldn't resist the Sonic reference!

Bob Dobbs

Well, I failed...I bagged it after 4AM.

ODDITIES:
1. Winroute showed the modem checked, but it did not display my modem other than "dial-up".
2. I never heard a peep out of my Dreamcast. I have it set to blind dial, etc... It is an "A" modem. I had a phone connected to the phone port to listen in (like the good-old-days). Yes, I double-checked to make sure the Dreamcast was plugged into the correct jack on the modem.

HARDWARE ISM:
One thing is wrong with my hardware, I checked my external modem and found that it was not a voice modem, it was a v.90 modem I flashed to be a v.92 Fax modem. It does have a speaker, but it is clearly a FAX modem (thanks for the online info, USR)! I will replace it today with the Rockwell internal modem and give it a go.

QUESTIONS:
1. Should I have a bogus phone number set-up in the Dreamcast?
2. Should I hear a dialing attempt?

This is where I am at.

Bob Dobbs

Your internal modem has the 3.5mm jack to plug into the sound card so that is a voice modem. I was actually thinking of buying that modem but I bought the zoom 3095 instead,

Here is the Robotics Modem from amazon: http://www.amazon.com/56K-USB-Modem-Win ... B0013FDLM0
Sorry it wasn't a voice modem.

Whenever I used to dialout on Vonage I never heard any dial noise and I connected. I thought I was supposed to too but I connected.

Ok, that is refreshing...I did panic when I heard nothing, then Radkin had to smack some sense into me. All kidding aside, I will try my Rockwell Riptide D-1156IV-T1. I'm looking for a driver for this.

Its a modem and sound card it looks like: http://members.driverguide.com/driver/d ... verid=5227
Edit this only for the sound part of the card.
DO YOURSELF A FAVOR PEOPLE, WHENEVER YOU SEE THE WORD RIPTIDE IN ANY HP COMPUTER.. PULL OUT THE RISER AND THE MODEM AND SHARPLY SMASH THEM TO BITS. THEY ARE JUNK, YOU WILL BE EXTREEMLY LUCKY AFTER SPENDING LOTS OF TIME TO FIND THE RIGHT DRIVER.. GET A CHEAP SEPARATE MODEM AND SOUND CARD FOR 20 BUCKS. I HAVE A COMPUTER BUSINESS AN

D HP IS ABSOLUTELY THE WORST COMPANY OUT THERE."
That's what someone wrote in the comments. There are some good comments though so IDK. Good Luck.

2nd EDIT: This looks like the modem driver: http://www.modem-drivers.com/drivers/61/61696.htm
Hope it works.

Well, although the driver was not an issue after all, I do believe it is junk. I found my Diamond Supra V.92 modem. This is the only modem I ever used, the other two I inherited from others. I thought I tossed it, but I found it with my Cyrix 5x86 100MHz processor. Cool stuff!

I'll try it with this modem later today. Anything else in my previous post did I do wrong or other?
