Pipe trick works.......outside quests.
Let's imagine you go online and you decide to pipe enemies in a quest, altough finding a rare enemy on ver.2 is harder then in latter versions (1/1024 vs 1/512) it is still possible to see a rare enemy, but that's it, once you kill it i am sure you won't receive a rare.
If you want a certain item via piping, make sure the drop rate is good for you, you don't want to waste hours piping for something that won't apear easily, something like 5/8 is a good drop rate, but if you see something like 1/22 then you must question yourself if it's really worth the effort.
Piping works but not on quests (regarding ver.2), you may be able to pipe 3 rappies on forest 1 (depends on map), for slimes simply split them into 4, then pipe and repeat, with lilies any room in caves is enough, but you only get like 2 per room and the hildebears you can only pipe 1 at a time.
My recomendation (Time wise)
Do runs, by doing normal runs you will:
- gain exp
- normally hunt all items on your id
- see enemies that have the rare version

Re: Hi, I'm newish, anyone have any tips for pso ultimate?
So one of my friends has an R7 with the bba that I've been trying to buy from him for a while, and he might cave if I offer a bit more. I know I can swap it out temporarily for the modem on my dreamcast since the adapter has no region restrictions.
But again my characters & game disc are all US ver.2, which your servers don't support. If I burn the provided iso image you guys have up for pal ver.2 pso, will I be able to play with my same characters? I would only be on long enough to drop a few items and mule them back and forth, and possibly trade if anyone still does that sort of thing.
More importantly, if I can log on my characters with the pal ver.2 disc, after I relocate a few items, would I be able to go back to my standard gd-rom / official disc?
I'm a bit of a sega nut, and like to keep official stuff. I do have a huge library of iso's and images from sega cd, saturn, and dc, but I'm more than aware of how fast reading those on a dreamcast can hurt it (since when reading burnt games its using the "cd" reading part only).
That is the priority. I do although have a backup dreamcast I wouldn't mind running iso's on, and if the bba happens to work quite nicely (i've only used the modem in the past), and there just so happens to be a few people who like to play online quite a bit...i might be tempted to restart my hunewearl or fomarl that just never picked up pace.
-----------------
I also have pso universe for ps2, but have literally never started it in the past 3 years i've had it. I kept telling myself I'd beat pso on my dreamcast first. Does anyone know if this game is any good at all or is it even online?
~~ I still refuse to start it until ultimate dark falz dies once more before me.

Re: Hi, I'm newish, anyone have any tips for pso ultimate?
Yes.will I be able to play with my same characters?
that can be arranged, simply ask me or anyone else here to create a open game until you can make all exanges, i will pick the item (don't worry, i don't steal) just in case a disconnect happens and then one way or the other the item will be delivered to you once you enter the game againenough to drop a few items and mule them back and forth
I would trade with you, but i can't come online atm (dreamcast only, on PC i can go online), in anycase other players might be interested in trading.and possibly trade if anyone still does that sort of thing
A very risky solution would be to go to schthack server and see if anyone wants to trade, but the hacked items are a very common thing around there, if you don't mind trading for items that are hacked or that were obtained under different drop rates then that place might be interesting for you.
Regarding me, i would never trade my items over simple hacked stuff.
Yes, it can be done at anytime.More importantly, if I can log on my characters with the pal ver.2 disc, after I relocate a few items, would I be able to go back to my standard gd-rom / official disc?
If you come online, we will welcome you, after all, dreamcast players are rare.

Re: Hi, I'm newish, anyone have any tips for pso ultimate?
In that case I'm about to break bank picking up a new R7
I'm not at all interested in obviously illegit items (I recall seeing hacks with strait 50%'s, and I just doubt that really dropped). I know that duplicates were far too common even a decade ago when I played last, and when trading its difficult to not have something, even a common item, thats slightly illegitimate. And honestly, with some of the ludicris drop rates on incredibly exotic and rare items, i wouldn't mind owning a duplicate of a legit item, as long as it wont corrupt my character data, and its something that's actually useful.
But what I don't know are prices. I hardly think I have enough fun stuff to trade for what I had originally wanted to inevitably obtain (Berdysh / Red dagger & sword for my hucast, frozen shooter / Panzer Faust / Bringers Rifle for my racaseal), let alone what I would try and trade for if I had access to people with other section id's. I always wanted to get my hands on the following, but havn't the faintest if most of them even existed in the first place in ver.2 or were only found in v3 / bb / other versions.
Bloody Art / Lavis Blade / Last Survivor / Handgun:Mila for my hucst
Yasminkov 9000M & 7000V / Final Impact / Maser Beam / Twin Psychogun / Baranz Launcher for my racaseal
If they do exist in ver.2 and people just so happen to have them for trade, do you know if they are common dupes? (pardon the strange lingo, I played diablo 2 for 7 years, and phrases like "dupes" and the fear of having vanishing items or corrupting my character data is a big threat)
My limited supply of trading goods also leaves me questioning what value I have to offer. I have a pair of delsaber swords & a brave knuckle, also that strange prototype regen shield that really doesn't do much of anything but look pretty. Random knick knacks really.
edit; i should probably stop getting my hopes up for those rare drops and re-question possible trading for items that can actually get me threw the game so I can function / find my own stuff. Are red handguns / daggers / swords / rifles / shots common trading stuff?

Re: Hi, I'm newish, anyone have any tips for pso ultimate?
When i traded i offered basicly any item i had and for some items i remember trading mags and a few uncommon items like flowens shield, it's like those items anyone can hunt/make but they aren't in the mood (afterall, who hunts in hard mode these days?)
I do have high % items so i'll let you know one secret few players know.
A 60% item is possible if it was a special weapon and if it droped on vhard, for example a double saber with 60% native is possible, if you are familiar with tekking, you can add 10% extra to weapons, so if the max % when you find an item is 50, then 50+10=60
Many ppl think this is true for all difficulties, however to keep things a bit balanced, sega decided to only give items up to 45% on ultimate.
Folowing the same deal 45+10 =55%
What i have to say is this, if you ever trade for an item that has 60% in an area and you know it's a ver.2 exclusive item then i am sure it's a hack.
Othrr items on schthack server are also hacks, but this is just one sure way of detecting them, it's obvious that if you create a game there and later you see lot's of items droped by a player then those will be hacks as well.
In the end it's up to you if you want to trade for items over at schthack.
Duped or hacked stuff doesn't corrupt your game.
A legit trade is basicly impossible at schthack
My recomendation is to play before trading, get to know the communities and what they have to offer, then maybe you can arrange a trade with someone.
EDIT: other things that make items hacked
Sranks with no name or with impossible simbols (///A///s mechgun +99)
Mags above lvl 200, with more then 200 iq and with more then 120 sych or with impossible stats
Items that do not drop ingame.
Regarding every other type of item that could be legit then you will have to decide for yourself if it's legit or not (common sense)

Re: Hi, I'm newish, anyone have any tips for pso ultimate?
While my m8 takes his sweet time considering the deal (i'm pretty sure i got the r7), I started looking into starting another character for online play. I'm stuck between a ramar & humar, in either sky, oran, or green.
While looking at the possible weapons I could be running across, I peeked at this;
http://www.pso-world.com/items.php?op=v ... rtby=class
which oddly enough came up when searching for pso ver.2 items (the search broght that to me, even though its listed as in bb+ only). Don't suppose anyone can verify if thats in ver.2? If so then my hucast might have a much easier time in the near future.

Re: Hi, I'm newish, anyone have any tips for pso ultimate?
Skyly id can find the chain sawd very, very easily.
Oran can find the twin brand easier then other ids (its the only id were hunting for the item is viable)
I don't know nothing about greenill
All those ids are not redria, so they all can find the imperial pick.
Humar is more powerfull then the ramar, once you reach ultimate ramar has a bigger choice of weaponry, they it will do low damage, with the humar you are tied (in the beguining) to few weapons, but once you get % weapons then you will own ultimate just like i do.
% benefit ATP, so the more you have, the better, so that's why the humar will be better in my honest opinion, especially because he can use needles (weapon that shoots at the speed of a rifle but fires 5 projectiles instead of 1)
Demolition comet is not avaiable on ver.2, sorry

Re: Hi, I'm newish, anyone have any tips for pso ultimate?
darn on the demolition comet
I chose to make both actually, my main goal having access to mags I normally wouldn't see (more of a vanity thing really). I have an oran humar & greenhil ramar now, but they are very much on the back-burner (my priorities are more for my purple racaseal, then my redria hucast, both slowly leveling up in ultimate forest, and every now and then a pinkal fomarl)
If I can successfully get online I would intend on trading off what I can for my racaseal, possibly scrap my hucast & fomarl and focus on either the humar or make a new hunwearl.

Well, with such a collection of chars and ids you really have a wide choice for hunting items.
Nice.

Re: Hi, I'm newish, anyone have any tips for pso ultimate?
Has had bba for a few days now and can't stop playing quake with old friend.
I have downloaded the provided pso v2 disc in .cdi format, but I need to borrow someones computer to download alcohol 120% again (i've had the free software on mine along time ago and the demo has expired, it won't let me use it without buying it this time).
While my dreamcast has auto-connected with quake, when using this dc-talk pso disc, will it also auto connect, or will I have to input some extra settings?
