What happens in 5-10 years when there are no more BBA's and no more dial-up? we still need new ideas to get the Dreamcast online!!

Thats exactly what im saying..

Dont get your hopes in that, just start saving if you want to get your dreamcast online. Or make a dc pc server.

Dont wait for a magical and cheap solution.

NOT going to happen.

This is to clear-up some of the things I read in this thread.

1. The IOLAN is not $200, that is the list price, they can direct you to a site they designate as a reseller/dealer for $125.00.

2. The phone line dial-tone simulator is only needed for Q3, the IOLAN will work because of the "BLIND DIAL" feature of the Dreamcast will still dial to the IOLAN via the modem connection. Last I checked, the IOLAN was listening to a call, not the dial tone and call.

3. BBA's are about $100 or more, correct? They only support Q3, PSO and the XDP/PW3.0 Browser. The IOLAN can support PSO, XDP/all PW Browsers, 4X4 Evo, Max Pool, Starlanser and maybe Sega Swirl (I am not sure about this one). Q3 would need the phone line swap trick...not a dial-tone simulator.

NOTE: I know nothing of the non-North American browsers, so I cannot speak of them.

Bob Dobbs

Sega swirl doesn't use a server it uses email. But the email serve needs to be unauthenticated which you will not find a service with that so you need to create a separate pop3 smtp server.

Huh!? Email!? Maybe for authentication.. But for the multiplayer action themselves, there must be somekind of server, it can not be handled by a mail server... No way... There must be something else..

Sega Swirl is a puzzle game. You make a move and then it sends an email to the opponent so they can make a move.

But the packet that makes the move itself on the game can NOT be an email. Email is multimedia. Theres no way it can affect whatsoever into a game. No way. smtp is required for authentication and those moves notification (i played it years ago, dont remember how it work), but there MUST be something else.
