Re: Better Connection Speeds With a PCDC Server.
Every test speed im running that doesnt use flash or java (not compatible with xdp) gives me not accurate at all results.. They are either really far away hosts, or super slow..
But, just for an example, with (best i found) http://homepage.eircom.net/~leslie/test ... stlrge.htm
i get 188400 bps.
And on my latptop, i get 4538560 bps.
On a decent speedtest, (laptop again of course):

How did you change your port speed?brourke228 wrote:Thanks for bringing this up. I didn't think to look whether I was using my modem at its max speed. I had the port speed limited to 38400bps before. Now I'm getting an extra 9600bps.
That doesn't mean there not accurate, I assume you were using broadband for your labtop, and the dial-up modem for your DreamCast.Dr. Pariolo wrote:Every test speed im running that doesnt use flash or java (not compatible with xdp) gives me not accurate at all results.. It limits the speed, even still some ISP's have burst speed which will give you a higher download/upload rate for the first 5mb or so, this is so they get good results with speed tests.
Also, I foundout that for modems V.90 has an a maximum upload speed of 33.6 kbit/s while V.92 has a maximum upload speed of 48 kbit/s.
I will try to see if I can force the V.92 with a modem init string.
Also, in Quake 3, my connection is best when connecting to OC's servers but it is still at a low green level, DC-Talks is Orange, as is Souls. This means I am not getting my upload speed of 33.6 kbit/s which is something I want to solve. Of course, download speed matters as well.

I'm not sure what you would need to do. My PC-DC server runs on linux so all i need to do is change the mgetty config file to edit the port speed. Sorry I can't help. I am not sure you how go about doing this on windows. Google is your best bet.

You go to control panel, modems, them choose your modem and go to settings.
I think DC servers are in Europe. That's why you might have low connection.

Quake 3 DC-talk servers. Doc Pariolo hosts the PSO servers so I wouldn't be surprised if he hosts the quake servers.

Re: Better Connection Speeds With a PCDC Server.
some quake 3 servers are over seas. idk for sure about DCtalks. you can choose what server to use though. if you are using a PC-DC server just manually enter an US server IP. besides Q3 almost all of the servers are here. unless things have changed that i dont know about.
the thing is he can always pick a closer server for testing.
