I have realized that communicating via the on screen keyboard in some games is horribly slow, most of the time I can't even say what I needed to because by the time I am done typing it is too late. Just a minute or two ago, by the time I answered Mike on Phantasy Star, he had already left.
Should I get a Dreamcast keyboard or a PS/2 Adapter?
Is one favoured over the other?

Re: DreamCast Keyboard
dc keyboard ftw. I doubt there is a price difference, but using the ps2 one will also require the adapter (which is fun to have, but means you won't be able to use any controllers with the adapter at the same time).
I'd be more inclined to stick with the dreamcast keyboard anyways. You can find alot of very fun ones if the white one doesn't suit your tastes.
With just casual use (as in you play maybe once a week), just get the normal keyboard. It does feel a littly flimsy and weak compared to standard keyboards.
I would actually suggest hunting down a japanses keyboard. Not only is it a very fun toy as it has both kanji symbols and (make sure when your buying it) standard english, it feels much stronger than the very common US dreamcast keyboard.
You can find japanses ones in black & white, theres' also a hello kitty one, and my favorite;

Thats the special box set for typing of the dead. The keyboard has both english text and kanji (which is a great way to add challenge to the game!!!!)
Just make sure that it has english on the keyboard if your going that route.

Not PS2 PS/2 PS/2 is the old style keyboards,, the ones with plugs that look like s-video cables, it has nothing to do with the PlayStation 2.Macabre wrote:dc keyboard ftw. Re: DreamCast Keyboard
Radkin and I have Dreamcast keyboards. We first used them to surf the web. Now only Radkin is online with the DC via BBA since leaving Canada but I am working on getting my DC back online.

Buy it now 25 dollars with free shipping. Comes with mouse too and both are sealed and in box. I bought this but they have more than ten available. You can use the mouse with the keyboard to play quake 3.

Also, has anyone tried the PS/2 adapters?

Re: DreamCast Keyboard
they are like 20 dollars for a ps/2 adapter. You are better off buying a keyboard that's made for the dreamcast. Try some Pawn Shops by you. Mike got his for a dollar.

Thats way to expensive.
I guess its time to take apart my DreamCast controller again and look at the pin outs to see if this could possibly be an easy DIY job.
