That's what I am saying, I would be willing to pay $160 for one just to get faster online functions.

I think, that this is good choice. Going online on Dreamcast is now very expensive - you need to buy Broadband Adapter, which costs more than hundred dollars. In my country there is maybe one (?) BBA. In my opinion its extremaly rare.
I would like to see good history in Tahi and nice 3D graphics than poor online mode.

I still think future releases of the game that can go online, should also support the bba (as well as the dialup modem) for the sole reason that a lot of folks (including myself) don't have a landline anymore (or its extremely expensive to use for internet), or they have a phone that works straight to your ethernetmodem. I don't see bba owners buying an old pc installed with 98/xp either for the sole purpose of running a pc-dc server for just one game.
imo we should at least be offered a choice here

I thought that it would probably support the modem and the broad band adapter, if not just the broad band adapter.mazonemayu wrote:I still think future releases of the game that can go online, should also support the bba (as well as the dialup modem) for the sole reason that a lot of folks (including myself) don't have a landline anymore (or its extremely expensive to use for internet), or they have a phone that works straight to your ethernetmodem. What he said they would do is let you plug your modem into your computer jack and there would be a program that would automatically tether it to your internet for you. They also said it would be written in java so Mac and Linux would support the application. No setup other than a modem on your pc and a phone cable.mazonemayu wrote:buying an old pc installed with 98/xp either for the sole purpose of running a pc-dc server for just one game.

Reticon wrote:Our idea structure revolves around using the existing 56k modem and allowing it to modulate to a PC with Linux or Windows. A program will be installed on the PC using java to demodulate the signal and use the PC as a '56k to DSL/LAN converter'.
So far that's the only plan that we have come up with that is most widely available for Dreamcast users.
We've completely ruled out the BBA option since there are not many in existence and those that do exist are rather expensive.

ok, now I'm just wondering how you would do that
dc dialupmodem + phonecable to pc > and where exactly do you plug this into a pc, as far as I know pcs haven't had that in years, so if you don't have a machine thats at least 10 years old (or a laptop) you're screwed

Most dekstops you buy still have modems. Laptops don't. Modems cost about 10-20 dollars online and are usb. Plus you can find an old junk pc and take the modem out and put it in your new desktop. Standard PCI is still used today.

Re: Tahi - The Arocean War (9-9-09)
sorry, but in all honesty I really don't know anyone who even has a desktop anymore. (not even myself & I used to build the damn things to live off back in the day)
my point is still that folks shouldn't HAVE to buy extra hardware to be able to play a game

Folks shouldn't have to shell out 150 dollars for a BBA. That's why they might not have BBA support.my point is still that folks shouldn't HAVE to buy extra hardware to be able to play a game

Re: Tahi - The Arocean War (9-9-09)
Quite the dilemma.
I'm glad we're all having a discussion about this. It's great to see all sides of the issue.
My main concern for not having a BBA is because of its limited availability here and in other parts of the world. Why pay over $100 for a BBA when a USB modem is anywhere from $15 - $50 depending on the company.
What I think would be the best outcome is if somehow we can utilize the serial port on the Dreamcast for a 3rd party modem, but that's quite the stretch, but I think that would be the best-case scenario.
