Re: Headless PC-DC Linux Server
Honestly this is the biggest year for the PC-DC server. So much innovation. There is way to get it done in a virtual machine which solidifies the longevity of this working and now there is a server where you don't even need to do anything except dial in. This is just amazing.

Re: Headless PC-DC Linux Server
I'm trying this tutorial but it seems my modem wasn't installed properly Im on UBuntu 10.10 and I'm at the event.d part, there is no such file so I guess it's not installed properly. My modem is Conceptronic 56k USB voice fax modem ( conexant chip, C56U model number ) the drivers for windows are 7.04.00.00 ( older than the ones that are in the tutorial ).
I Installed the ones mentioned but still the modem would appear as an unclassified device on hwinfo.
Any ideas? I've tried detecting the modem with gnome-ppp with no results it doesn't detect the modem.
Any ideas?
Any help would be appreciated, thanks
EDIT: /etc/event.d no longer used
The version of upstart included in Ubuntu 9.10 no longer uses the configuration files in the /etc/event.d directory, looking to /etc/init instead. No automatic migration of changes to /etc/event.d is possible. If you have modified any settings in this directory, you will need to reapply them to /etc/init in the new configuration format by hand. (402759)
I guess I'll have to look there then, I'll continue the tutorial and I'll let you know If I can make it then.
EDIT 2: Nothing, it seems the device can't be opened ( so it's not installed... )
How can I install it then? This modem is voice capable so it should work.

Download this:
http://linux.dell.com/files/ubuntu/luci ... ll_A00.iso
Mount it.
And run it and there should be instructions of some sort on how to install your driver, it will also include the files.

Re: Headless PC-DC Linux Server
I'm trying to get this to work in a terminal right now using the command,
It doesn't time out like it was doing before. It appears the modem is sending the auto-answer command, but it still isn't connecting. I'm gonna try messing around with some more settings.
Code: Select all
sudo mgetty -D /dev/ttyS1 -m '"" AT&S0=1'

Re: Headless PC-DC Linux Server
I made major changes.
I changed it to a better way that works 100% of the time for everyone.
I also added instructions for dial-tone generation.
