Silent Hill - Bleem

Post by Barrys_Bapz »

I was playing Silent Hill a few years ago on BLEEM, and it play'd fine but the buttons on the original Dreamcast controller there is no enough as to the PSX.

What about using a PS to Dreamcast converter?

Or some 3'd party controllers have extra buttons

Thanks

it wont help to use a PSX controller. the Dreamcast wouldn't be able to tell that your are trying to play PSX games. there for you would just be adding dead buttons. the extra buttons on some DC controllers are usually just there to move the trigger functions onto the face of the controller for fighters and such. if the game supports button mapping you might be able to remap the buttons so that you get only the necessary features?

Wrong, a PSX controller converter WILL work.

However, the Dreamcast won't fully understand it.

I found the trick is that activating dual shock will give you R1 and L1 functionality while deactivating it will give you R2 and L2 functionality. (Could be swapped, but you get my point).

While, specifically with that game, you can change the controls around to make the most useless options (map [can be accessed from options menu so it doesn't need a dedicated button], sliding left, and sliding right etc) to be on the buttons you don't have (select) or have less often (R2 and L2 as opposed to R1 and L1).

Hope that helps, but you CAN beat Silent Hill on a Dreamcast with a Playstation controller from beginning to end. I have done it twice.

But remember that you CAN'T save and one death restarts the game. I advise getting a guide and using it to find all health packs etcetera.

Good luck.

I heard you can get Twisted Metal 4 to work by reconfiging the keys.

The converter would work, but the Dreamcast controller with extra buttons would NOT work.
