Are you sure you've set up VMware to use the correct COM port ? (see step 1) And you're not using modem at the same time in windows? (only one instance of the modem can be used at a time) Verify that the virtual serial port is marked as "connected" in VMware settings. Also, are you are using gnome-ppp to test for your modem in ubuntu? When you go to setup in gnome-ppp and then hit detect the modem should be detected as /dev/ttyS1. Or if for some reason you are using more than one virtual serial port in VMware it will detect it as /dev/ttySn, n being the device number. If you're still having problems after checking all that let me know.

well auto brings up nothing but clicking the drop sown does show the dev/ttys1 and the other ones. does it matter if im using a 64bit? also im using an actual ubuntu 10.10 os on my 2bd drive partition

luso try typing in "sudo apt-get update" first before typing "sudo apt-get install gnome-ppp"

If it still does not work, then download and install it from here:
http://ftp.debian.org/pool/main/g/gnome ... 1_i386.deb (32bit version)

http://ftp.debian.org/pool/main/g/gnome ... _amd64.deb (64bit version)

If you open gnome-ppp then go to Setup > Detect and the Modem is not detected. That means it cannot find your modem. Have you tried everything I told you? There are many things that could be causing this. I would like to help you, but I can only guess what might be wrong. You need to troubleshoot. And one other thing, have you changed anything in the windows registry regarding your modem?

It should not matter that you're using a 64bit OS, that is so long as your processor supports the 64bit architecture.

sould i have to install the updates first? 205mb
