It looks as though your PC modem was detected since it sent out a command. Which dreamcast modem are you using? This is usually what happens when you're using a B modem and there is no line voltage inducer present. Either that or you are not syncing the connection up correctly when using the "sudo killall USR1 mgetty" command. You want to execute that command 2.5 to 3 seconds after the Dreamcast starts dialing.

There was no white sticker on the inside part of the modem, but the one on the bottom says "670-14116A'. I have a 77HP voltage inducer I bought several months ago for my previous attempt. I'm not too sure how to set it up, or if I even need it. I tried it again, this time connecting the talk battery (set on continuity mode) and I still get 'NO CARRIER' or something similar. the light on the 77HP goes green when the process is underway and I've improved the timing of the killall command, and no change
Would the config files have anything to do with this, or should I try again using ubuntu 10.04 as previously suggested?
You could try that, but I doubt the OS is the problem. Personally i use xubuntu 10.04 for this.
Can you take a screenshot of the mgetty log after you execute the mgetty command, but before you use killall. I just want to see if its working correctly before you try to connect. Also be sure nothing is using your modem in windows otherwise vmware will not be able to access it.
Hi, im new here
and trying to get online with the dreamcast using this tutorial.
Instead of using ubuntu im using crunchbang
I have my setup like this
Vista-64 bit
670-14140A
Web Browser 2.0
Phantasy Star Online ver 1
Zoom 3095
and my internal modem
but im using zoom 3095 as recommended
I always get a no carrier response.
I can post logs if you like.
Yes that would be helpful. And tell me exactly what you're doing when attempting to connect. ie, the command youre typing word for word.
Also you will need to use a line voltage inducer when using that type of usb modem with a model A Dreamcast modem. And it will not work with at all with a model B Dreamcast modem. If you aren't using one this is likely the problem. I have some info on making of one of these near the bottom of my guide.
