Sylverant works great. You can check whos online here: http://sylverant.net/ Heres the connect guide for pso: http://dreamcast-talk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=274

Sorry for the late reply, I've been busy with work and training.
Using Ubuntu 10.04 isn't any easier. Before restoring my laptop, it didn't even detect my modem.
My modem is an internal 'HDAUDIO Soft Data Fax Modem with SmartCP', manufactured by CXT (Conexant, I'm presuming).
The messages and commands inputted into the terminals:
I tried taking out the '-m' to see if it made a change, but it makes no difference.
Interface Log
Messages Log
System Log
I'm not too sure how to wire up my Tone Generator thing. The only connector I have is one of my spare ADSL filters. that is, if it's even needed at all. The green light comes up when the 'killall' command is executed, and I've tried using both 'Line 1' and 'Line 2' switches in the device.
Would it just be a case of getting a USB modem, or is there something wrong with my configuration pages? I pretty much kept everything the same, only that my DNS is 192.168.0.1 instead of what the guide had.

USB modem - definitely! Make sure it is one that is compatible with Linux. The guide IP is just a reference, so it does not pertain to everyone's home IP address setup.

I know I said earlier your modem was probably detected, but can you open up gnome-ppp and go to setup>detect just to verify it is working in vmware.
Whats happening in your log is abnormal. The part that says "timeout in chat script, waiting for `CONNECT'" I haven't encountered this before. Its possible it is your modem thats the issue. PC-DC server will only work with voice-compatible modems, I don't know if yours is or not.

Yeah, I did that in both versions of Ubuntu I used. Before I restored my Vista laptop my modem wasn't detected. It has been detected now, though.brourke228 wrote:I know I said earlier your modem was probably detected, but can you open up gnome-ppp and go to setup>detect just to verify it is working in vmware.

PC-DC server will only work with voice-compatible modems which I probably forgot to mention in the guide, since almost all modems nowadays are voice. I'm gonna update that now.
I assumed my modem would be voice-compatible, as I got this laptop like 3 years ago. If I do get a USB modem, I'll just run VMWare on my Windows 7.
I searched USB modems at www.maplin.co.uk. 3 results came up, and I have no idea if they are voice compatible.
http://www.maplin.co.uk/usb-v92-dial-up-modem-221377
http://www.maplin.co.uk/usb-adsl-modem-222200
http://www.maplin.co.uk/adsl-usb-modem-221060
I tried an eBay search, but the only thing I saw at a glance was a voice modem only for Windows

Well several people use the zoom 3095. Impulse uses a dell usb conexant modem, forget the name. Remember though as I stated in the guide you need a model A Dreamcast modem for a usb-powered usb modem to work correctly. If you're using a desktop which has a serial port you could also get a serial modem.

Well the zoom 3095 modem is weird. you need a line voltage inducer with a model A modem for it to work properly. Kingbuzzo is the one who uses the modem.
ALSO: I was wondering what phone line simulator you were using because if it sends out a dial-tone then that would be an easier way for me to play quake 3.

If you haven't changed anything from before I would just say try restarting ubuntu in vmware.

Im actually using crunchbang and im still having problems and cannot figure it out for the life of me.
Ubuntu hasn't been changed since the time I didn't make the line voltage inducer but its still not working.
It doesn't seem to be like a problem with the OSes trying to talk but maybe my internet connection?
