Having a hard time removing DC power board

Post by futurer0ckstar »

Alas, the day hath come. In accordance with Murphy's Law, my Dreamcast decided to randomly reset the day after I ordered some more controllers and VMUs off of Amazon. Now I'm lucky if I can even get it to turn on without being stuck in a perpetual cycle of resetting that results in nothing but black being shown on the screen. :?

So, I'm following mmmonkey's guide, and I've unplugged the power board from the mobo and unscrewed the two screws (yes, I have also pulled back the plastic tab). But, for some reason, the power board won't budge. I can't get it out. I could definitely use more force than I am using, but I don't want to break it. What can I do?
"...Fix reason firmly in her seat, and call to her tribunal every fact, every opinion. Question with boldness even the existence of a god; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason, than that of blindfolded fear." ~ Thomas Jefferson

If the screws are out and the tab is unlatched the only thing that should be holding it in place are the pins that come up from the motherboard. Pull up from that area slowly with fingers on either (long) side of the board across where the white socket for the motherboard pins is. Pull pretty much straight up but rock it back and forth a bit if you have too. It can be on there kinda tight. I don't think you'll be able to break anything. It would take a feat of unnatural strength to rip those huge pins out of the motherboard in this fashion even if the pins had somehow become fused to the power supply socket.
