Action Adventure Games?

Post by daniel116 »

Hi
I'm looking for action adventure games that don't have too much box moving and keys finding, pretty much the opposite of 99% of the action\adventure games for the ps1.
Any suggestions?
I tried Soul Reaver but it was exactly what I described, too much puzzle solving for my liking.
I really liked Code Veronica.
Basically I'm looking for some good third person shooters\beat'em ups\hack'n'slash games

Have you tried:

Blue Stinger - Lots of adventurin' and monsters to beat up.
Urban Chaos - Basically the Dreamcast's Grand Theft Auto 3.
MDK2 - Super cool third-person shooter/adventurer.
Fur Fighters - Pretty similar to MDK2, but with cute little animals.
Headhunter - Kind of like a more linear Grand Theft Auto minus the car stealing plus stealth elements.
Red Dog - Third person vehicular shooter.
Alone In The Dark: The New Nightmare - Very similar to Code Veronica.
Carrier Also very similar to Code Veronica
Deep Fighter - Basically an underwater space shooter with an emphasis on exploration, I really didn't expect to like it but it was surprisingly fun. Kind of has a Metroid Prime kind of feel to it.

These are also fun action games, but might be too linear to qualify as "adventure" games:

Sword of the Berserk - Awesome hack-n-slash game.
Zombie Revenge - Really fun beat-em-up, but light on the adventure side.
Dynamite Cop - Ditto.

That's all I can think of at the moment, but I'm sure someone else will be able to come up with some more.

Sword of The Berserk Gut's Rage, is exactly what your looking for, it isn't very long but it is a good game.

Another one is Draconus Cult of Wyrm.

You've tried PSO surely ? Not sure I'd list it under Action/Adventure, but it's a great game full of exploration and hack/slashing. And still playable online.

Record of Lodoss War is my favourite Hack & Slashing game. It's a very long game yet so utterly addictive you get very immersed in the action.

Omikron:Nomad Soul is a third-person action\shooting\fighting game which is very atmospheric and a must-play for anyone owning a DC.

Shadowman is another atmospheric game. A Horror/Shooting hybrid. Again, VERY long, but great nevertheless.

D2 is a Horror\Action\Adventure game with lots of shooting elements and only a handful of (easy) puzzles to solve.

Fur Fighters is probably my favourite shooting/adventure game. Great characters, colourful graphics and great fun.

Max Steel is one of those games which crept up on me. An enjoyable little title that never gets a mention.

I will second the D2 comment. It was a game I had the original GDR's of when I first owned a Dreamcast back in the early 00's.

Definitely a weired Japanese game, but VERY addicting with graphics that show what the Dreamcast is capable of.

It is a FPS/3PS/RPG that should appeal to any follower of the genres posted prior.

I didn't realise Max Steel was a cartoon but it makes sense now you've said it.

I think Evil Twin comes under the adventure bracket. Ostensibly it's a 3d platformer in the mould of Mario 64 but the dark, Tim Burtonesque artwork, interesting gameplay and haunting atmosphere make it stand out. It's let down by some glaring gliches and was obviously rushed out to release but it's definitely still worth playing.

Dragon Riders is good game if you like long sprawling adventures.
