ok cool, so Sylverant is that just another server yeah? I don't mind if I play with PC version players thats fine just would be nice to catch some DC people too lol. So those ships you mention are they on your server? or Sylverant?

I'm really looking forward to getting my BBA to get PSO online again, I deeply miss it.

One other question, if I want to play Quake 3 Arena online what do I have to do? I have the PAL AND NTSC versions of the game, is this supported on servers like yours and Sylverants? Is it all the same thing or is all this stuff purely for PSO??

I'd also love to play a bunch of other DC games online but doubt they are still possible, I know PSO and Q3A are the only games that work with the BBA right? But I also have Starlancer, 4x4 evolution (NTSC) Bomberman Online, AFO, Ooga Booga and all sorts of others and I'm guessing none of those work online anymore right? I mean obviously I know that seganet is dead and Sega doesn't support them I just wondered if anyone has been able to get any of them to work much like PSO etc.

Look forward to playing some Legit PSO again on DC again v soon! again I don't mind who I play with, I just won't put up with people freezing my screen or ruining my save files... they can drop all the hacked weapons they want but I won't pick them up :D

Sylverant is a server and has 3 ships, Iselia is the ship run by the server admin (bluecrab for reference), then we have Vega that belongs to DC-Talk and you have altimira wich belongs to pso-palace users.
http://sylverant.net/

I beleive no one will freeze you game, but sometimes pc players entering games with dc players will cause a freeze, it's a bug with no specific origin, but i believe original game disks do not suffer from this problem, but burned copies do.

You can use when you are in the lobby, a save command to save your char data online, then if something bad happens (you fsod and you lose unequiped items) you can always return to the server and restore it to the previous saved state, this is your responsibility and my advice.
Another option is to backup your save on another memory card, i made a youtube video showing it, that way if something catastrophic happens, you go to the back up save and make another copy of it, then you can go online, obviously what you did before is lost, but atleast you will have your char and item back. (consider this as having 2 save states instead of 1, having 2 is saffer)
If you forget to save and you lose your stuff, then contact me via pm or anyone that is capable, so we can restore your items 1 by 1, you send a list via pm saying what you lost and i will try and remake the items so they can be given you.

Thanks mate sounds good, im probably just worrying for nothing, i will definitely back up my character online that sounds like a good idea, its not soo much items etc, if push came to shove i could remake my items as i still have all my codes to make items myself but would rather not if i had a choice. Anyway i will definitely check the servers out and see which one i prefer. How do those anti hack codes u mentioned work? And how would i back up my character online?

Any word on quake 3? I have no idea how that works but i have both pal and ntsc discs

Thanks

The legit command is a rule to enfore legit gameplay, to avoid the tipical stuff that happens on schtserv server, in wich case false legit players used the command or that players would join the game knowing they were not legit, the command compares each item you have to a set of rules, if it violates the rules, you cannot enter the game and you cannot use the command.
I believe it also blocks a few other commands like setting the game minimun level to a lower one (to avoid lvl 1 players entering ultimate for fast leveling)
Keep in mind it only checks for items, it cannot stop ppl with a hacked level from getting in, but if that happens and if you know they are cheating, simply report.

example, normal mags go up to lvl 200, if someone with a lvl 1000 mag tries to enter, they will fail the check and will be blocked from entering the game.
More info here: http://dreamcast-talk.com/forum/viewtop ... f=3&t=2316

As for the commands to save your char
http://dreamcast-talk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=274
(check 1st post)
/save [slot] -- Save the current character data to the server for backup purposes. [slot] is required and can be between 1 and 4 (inclusive). This command can only be executed in a default lobby, not a game lobby.

/restore [slot] -- Restore the character data from the given slot on the server (saved previously with /save). Be careful when using this command as PSOPC doesn't seem to like you restoring a character that isn't the same as the one you came on the game with. [slot] is required and can be between 1 and 4 (inclusive). This command can only be executed in a default lobby, not a game lobby.
As for quake, someone else will have to make input as i don't know enough to help you :(

Hope someone else will help you and welcome to DC-Talk

awesome, thanks very much mate. So is it better for me to avoid the Schthack server in order to have a more legit experience or are they all about as bad/good as one another? Or is there a server that's more legit than the rest? Probably won't matter anyway, as long as I can back up my character and with those legit codes they won't really be able to effect my fun very much so I'm looking forward to finally being able to play again!

Side note, can anyone still do those screenshots you used to be able to do in PSO?? I have a tonne of them from back in the day still but does anyone know if you can still do it at all? That would be cool

if anyone knows anything about Quake 3 please let me know, that game was awesome but became even worse than PSO for hacking as you would just be walking around and would suddenly loose control of your character or something equally annoying!

Can someone give DCUltrapro some quake info please :)

The players that played on schthack are now at sylverant, so the ones that cheat are also here, thing is, on schthack they didn't care if rule violations existed or not, they were lazy to do anything.
Here things are a bit different, they usually use altimira for the more permissive legit command (so it accepts some game mods/cheats) and because they know if they do something wrong on vega or iselia a ban will fall on them.

My recomendation is to literally ignore servers or ships on most occasions and simply play with the ppl you like, because legit and illegit players exist in sylverant or schthack, it's up to you to find them. (it's easier on sylverant due to a larger player base).
In most cases they don't mix together as eventually someone will complain.

Online consoles also has a server but you need to have many posts on the forum and you need to wait atleast 6 months.
Few ppl play there (if any) but i can say that it's possibly the most legit enviroment. Why would cheaters wait 6 months to play on an empty server? however it might give a false sense of security because in the beguining many players entered the server and i don't know if after all this time all remained legit.

As for screenshots that is a good question, i do not know if the website that makes the "conversion+send email" still works

cheers bud lol, do you still play online much? I don't mind playing with PC players or guys who have a non legit character, as long as they don't try to ruin my game.

Regarding Online Consoles, I was a massive member over there for a long time but Nikon was so strict about things that I got tired of it. I had about 1100 posts there, and I was an active player too, but when PSO official servers went down in 2007 and Nikon became even stricter I just gave up lol

Anyway I will give all the servers a try and as long as I can back up my character as you say then I'm quite happy, I just won't take any hacked items or anything lol

I will have a google around for the PSO screenshots and if I find any viable info I will post back here.

Regarding Quake 3, it is no urgent matter, would just be interested to hear how it works. cheers mate

I go online sometimes with a pc char, sometimes i do random games just for fun or to help newbies out, but the char is nowhere near as powerfull as my dreamcast char (wich can't come online atm), but it's still good enough for normal difficulty games.
I also have a specific cmode char that rarely is used.

You may also see me in the lobby or in locked games using a test char (visible in signature) or a npc named char such as elenor, bernie or any of the other 60 npcs
