Dreamcast cases: US VS Euro VS Jap.

Post by Nuglet_McJunior »

Personally, I've never owned a Japanese DC game. I can tell you that I think the US cases suck really really bad. It's very hard to find/keep them in good shape, as it is very easy to tear a instruction book on the stupid tiny plastic things that hold it in. Euro cases look BA on the other hand. :P What do you guys think?

The Japanese Dreamcast cases are of a much higher quality then the US ones, I'll upload a comparison shot of Grandia 2 NTSC-J and Grandia 2 NTSC in a bit.

I'm curious, are all of the Japanese games in thicker CD cases? The only one I have is Virtual On, and the case is slightly thicker than a US CD case.

No, just the games which comes with a detailed manual (and bonus materials), like Fighting Vipers 2, Hundred Sword, Jet Set Radio, Grandia 2, Samba De Amigo 2000, Guilty Gear X, Capcom vs. SNK 2, Pro Yakyu Team De Asobou! ...

But most of the games were shipped in ordinary jewel cases.

Having been a PAL region Gamer all my life and having imported both NTSC US and J DC games I can certainly agree that PAL cases are far better, they reminded me of the PS1 cases, the DC cases from US were just rubbish, I find a lot of my imports from USA break quite easily, the plastic pegs in the middle particularly. The ONLY case that was used a few times for Dreamcast in the JAP region are the ones that are basically DVD cases, such as Cosmic Smash, these cases were awesome!!

Yes the US cases are horrible.

I've had at least five, if not more games from Ebay arrive with cracked cases and other shipping damage.

It wasn't the sellers fault though, thus, I haven't asked for a refund for these.

yeah that was a major problem for me, even a lot of the JAP imports got damaged on the way. I also had trouble with PAL ones but I was quite lucky in that I found a seller who had a listing for BRAND NEW un used PAL cases, I bought about 12 and not one arrived damaged so that helped me replace a lot of damaged cases
