I know the whole deal with the official gun not working on US games. But if I imported a Jap/Euro HotD 2 and an official Sega light gun, would it work on a US console? Thanks.

hmm, i would think that the JP version of the game would be fine because it was made for that game. if you are wondering if it is possible to play imports on the Dreamcast, yes it is. you can use a boot disc. as far as i know the gun was blocked using software in the US game. i do not know what the EU game will and will not work with though. if the PAL version will work it would be better for English speaking people than the JP one would.

Thanks for the response. I'm just curious if the US software is blocking the use of the lightgun, or if it the actual console the is blocking the lightgun.

It's a software lock-out in the games themselves, not a hardware lock-out.

But the NTSC Demolition Racer game works with a Pal lightgun and console doesn't it ?

I can't try any lightgun issues out as my CRT tv has been consigned to the loft.

not sure why it wouldn't. the only game that doesn't work on NTSC consoles is house of the dead if i am not mistaken. and that is only when you use the official Sega lightgun.

Question for you, as I have a few lightgun games on DC I was wondering, they don't work on LCD screens do they? You have to use a CRT right? or is there a way of getting it to work?

Well, I'm not Adam but I'll answer the question for you. No they will not work with LCD. Light guns will only work with CRT televisions. Kind of a bummer but that's the way it is.

i will expand on this a little bit more. they will work on CRT tvs and CRT computer monitors. they do not work on my direct view HD tv, even though it is a CRT. i have actually tried using light guns on 2 direct view CRT HDTV's and they just wont work with them for some reason.
