Re: Dreamcast light guns
The refresh rate of the current 100 Hz TVs are too fast for lightguns, afaik. Every time you pull the trigger the screen flashes white and the light (from the TV) will be send to the lens of the lightgun. More frames/hertz less time for the flash.

Yes, I was the douchebag student in that video. Thanks for watching, appreciate it.DCUltrapro wrote:Nice one Adam, is that you in the video on your channel about a kid and a teacher in colleague? pretty funny, and your videos are informative too.
Question for you, as I have a few lightgun games on DC I was wondering, they don't work on LCD screens do they? You have to use a CRT right? or is there a way of getting it to work?
As for the VGA monitor, the answers you've received are accurate.
This video I made is the only way I know of to get a lightgun to work on a VGA monitor.

Re: Dreamcast light guns
as adam already said they will indeed work on old CRT VGA monitors. i have used my light gun on many old CRT monitors with my VGA box.
my TV appears to be 60Hz, so its not all about refresh rates. some flat panels have 60Hz too, my PC monitor is one of them and it does not work with light guns. i believe that the new tvs only mimic refresh rates anyway. like idk how to explain it. they don't refresh the same way as the old school CRTsJenkins wrote:The refresh rate of the current 100 Hz TVs are too fast for lightguns, afaik. Re: Dreamcast light guns
hmm... maybe I can tweak settings on the tele and get it to run on my hd screen, you can change the refresh rate on some of them manually

Re: Dreamcast light guns
i looked on mine, but i didn't see anything. maybe if i went into the service menu or something. the TV is hooked to my computer at 60hz and the only other option is 59Hz, so i'm pretty sure it runs everything at 60Hz. don't be to shocked if you find out that the gun doesn't work on your HD set either. if your trying to use it on a flat panel you should give up now. light guns just don't work with flat panels. i personally have never heard of one working on a flat panel.

Re: Dreamcast light guns
probably won't, I'm pretty sure I tried it on my old 22" lcd 1080p screen and it didn't work then either

Re: Dreamcast light guns
It's how it refreshes the image. LCD screens show the whole picture at once. CRTs sort of draw the image row by row which is what allows the gun to determine where it was pointing when the screen flashes. Your TV is definitely 60hz natively, it's just displaying the picture totally differently than a CRT would.Gary_b wrote:as adam already said they will indeed work on old CRT VGA monitors. i have used my light gun on many old CRT monitors with my VGA box.
