The Dreamcast CrossOver

Due to the release of the Dreamcast's New Dolmexica Engine made by Captain Dreamcast I had an idea to make a Fighting game kinda like Super Smash Brothers when i was younger but due to my limited skills in Programming i never got it off the ground. but now that this open source engine is available I can now put my idead into effect. My Idea is to put characters that appeared on the Dreamcast in one fighting game. But its no longer going to be Super Smash brothers style, due to the game engine being 2D and me no longer wanting that kind of gameplay. But i thought ill ask the Community as to which characters they would like to see in a crossover title.

Im in development stages as of now with Choosing 12 characters only. Thaats the best i can do because making so much woul be hard and making the game balance would be even harder. As of now i made a list of the characters I would like to use.

1. Nightmare (Soul Calibur)
2. Taki (Soul Calibur) But I'm Thinking to switch for Sophitia Due to me having another Ninja Female

3. Galuda (Power Stone)
4. Ryoma (Power Stone)

5. Ryo Hazuki (Shenmue)
6. Lan Di (Shenmue)
These two can now Finally Settle the Score.

7. Ein (DOA2)
8. Kasumi (DOA2)
Still thinking between Ayane, and kasumi. The reason i didnt Choose RYU is because one theres enough Characters with RY- in the beginning of their name and 2. One more ninja and im gonna barf.

9. Jack Wade (Headhunter)
10. Claire Redfield (RE: Code Veronica)
11. Red Ring Rico Tyrell (PSO: Episode 1)
This group id where i face my challenge of designing characters for a fighting game that has never been in one. and still keeping their style and appearance. And the Reason i chose RRR Tyrell. Is because she has a background and story that can give me ideas on how to design her. Instead of just using HUmar, RAmar, etc.

12. Akira Yuki (VF3TB) he has a moveset already which shouldnt be hard, but choosing the right ones for a 3 Fighting game is a challenge. along with making the characters from DOA2

Theres more ideas and other characters I had planned but i chose these because i felt they had a good transition to 2D. I had characters like Falcon Pride, and Gunrock, Oolala, Beat.

I'm trying to make the game feel and look genuwine, instead of a makeshift mugen.

So what would the community like to see in a fighting game?

Thats a Good List. only reason that i didnt use SF characters is cause we still see them around. SFxT, and 3SOE. I was considering Ryu just because i have Akira, and Ein both Karate fighters from different Fighters to have a Triangle rivalry.

Guts is a good one. as well as Beat and Gum they were in my list at the start, my reason for not including them is triying to get a good move pool for both of them yet to have them unique at the same time.

Ivy is in another Free game in development "Card Sagas Wars" they have a great set for her. im still thinking if i should use her or not.

The only reason Akira made the list is because i took Daigo Kazama Out for him because i felt that Daigo didnt have a strong enough background to put him in the game.

Claire i feel can be switched out for vanessa but VF4 wasnt on the dreamcast. So i rather put someone that appeared first.

Angel and Joe can be put on my roster for sure.

I had a Hard time coming up with the List. i had. I didnt want to have every character with weapons. and at the same time i didnt want every character to be from one game i tried to get them from Dreamcast titles that were popular or had. Thanks on your input I liked your list. hopefully i get more feedback on the list and get some more support on my list.

Damn looks like i need to hit the drawing Board. I did have problems choosing Bosses. So i guess that answers my problems. Im surprised i didnt even think of him. but the other Characters did pop in my head from the Golden Axe series.

The Game play im aiming for is more tradtional Fighter, SF4, SF3, CVS2, CVS1. but i think he can fit perfectly.

Anyone have any input on the characters i listed ? personally im realy thinking Sophitia over Taki just for the simple fact. that shes a bit more different than taki Plus a sword and sheild can give me a little more to work with on her moves.

should you start on Death Adder, May I suggest you take a peek at the one from the second arcade game (return of death adder). I think he looks more badass, with the fire breathing dragon shield (which also makes a hell of a special attack)

In terms of characters to add in I'd say either Shin Akuma (CvS2) or Kim Kaphwan (CvS2) also I really like Cervantes from Soul Calibur, he is my favourite SC character and I'm a bit of a fiend with him lol

Its a New engine being made by CaptainDreamcast. hes on this forum in the Homebrew section. you can check its out its really cool.

I was looking at him he seems really cool. but i dont think ill make him playable if i do put him in. because he looks like he would be a really broken character. ^.^

You know cervantes didnt cross my mind. ill have to check and see how he'll fit into this gameplay im trying to aim for. and as far as the akuma. im going to have to decline him cause im really trying to stay away from SF characters just for the simple fact they are often used. and theres so much sprites out there for them. I want to use characters that you dont see much in fan made games, but can be recognized.

Ivy is cool, I'm not a fan of the Virtua Fighter Series personally, Ryo and the JSR characters are nice touches, I guess it really just depends how evenly matched you want the characters to be, if its just going to be a 2d fighter it might be tough to level them out though. For a start IVY and TAKI have weapons, and would you be doing new sprites from scratch for these characters?
