So... I wanted to try to take this 1 step further for maximum benefits of my connection.

However i really am a linux "Noob" and dont know how to do commands that well.

I installed Ubuntu to be side by side with XP, Obviously Ubuntu did not detect my modem :cry:

I took my modem out of my desktop to get better details and try to find a linux driver.

Its a Conexent CX11352-11 (Softv92 Data Fax Modem)...

This website here ---> http://www.linuxant.com/drivers/hsf/dow ... taller.php

Says to open up the terminal and enter the following commands, ethier xterm, konsole or gnome-terminal... Thats easy enough, But i dont understand...

"Use the cd command to access the directory where the cnxtinstall.run file was downloaded."

I understand cd = change directory, But when i cd /etc/downloads/cnxtinstall.run, I keep getting error's, I dont know the correct input :roll:

I tried changing it every which way and nothing, BTW even if i get this command to go threw, You have to pay 19.99$ for the driver or something? Wth...

Its worth a shot... If you have some spare time and could explain it to me better that would be great. As i can connect to the internet as of now threw VMware.. It seems like something is off.. Idk when i change blocks or ships it can take up to 2-3 min. Sometimes i think im going to Disconnect, But then 5 min later i get the warp screen. Im thinking it has to do with my router, some ports not open that should be?

All in all this has been a good learning process.

Thanks!

***Edit*** Also been googling my ass off as far as that command goes.. Alot of threads with linux noobs asking questions are not that helpful, They go so far as to say hahaha install windows and stuff its "Easy". Now that is lame.

If you're looking for free conexant driver there is one here which I believe is a modified version of the driver licensed to dell: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p= ... stcount=10 I was using that at one point. I'm not sure if it works on newer versions of ubuntu. If it doesn't work you'll need to get one of the versions discussed.
cd /etc/downloads/cnxtinstall.run
You can't change directory to a file. It should be cd /etc/downloads/

Took me a hour to figure it out and more googling lol It was cd /home/Downloads, I believe, Case sensitive :oops:

I really could not for the life of me figure out how to install a driver, threw the terminal. Looked everywhere and came across this guide after other guides failed me... He had written how to edit the lines in certain files to get it to work.

For anyone interested ---> ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1903439

That guide is supposed to be for USB modems only i think, But i was so lost and confused i just copied and pasted what he did and it work for my PCI card so...

I kept getting errors towards the end of the installation but the edits in that guide somehow fixed it.

Anyway that nightmare is over

Ended up being detected as ttySHSF0

So im fully booted up in Ubuntu got my dc hooked up and there is absolutley no lag what so ever. Had my BB char and DC char in same lobby, chat pops up on both screens at the same time despite how many people are in the room ;) .

Feels like i have a BBA lololol.

I learned alot from all this, VMware probably the easiest route, But something was wrong for me. 5 min delay dont make sense XD. Also if your a perfectionist and picky about connection speed you could try this way. But i assume most of you have USB modems etc and are not effected which is good.

Thanks for the help, See you guys online :D
