Macbook Pro HDD problem

Im having some minor problems with my Macbook Pro (2010) model.

When I download torrents then it seems like they take up the space, even though ive transfered them to my external HDD.
I have estimated that 100 GB is stolen by the mac

What can i do? I format the HDD once in a while

You probably have a virus, or some sort of malware on the hard drive. That, or you just don't know how to manage your files.
