Got some good news about 4x4. I contacted someone at TRI who has fixed the dc-backend for us so we can connect again to 4x4 EVO on Dreamcast using the official disc and official server. DC-Talk is also hosting its own 4x4 Evo chat server now, which James was kind enough to add to the official list of servers. So you can now connect to either the official TRI Evo server or ours! We might be able to get the track database back up on the official server. I'll make another post if anything happens with that.

I checked, and it looks like it's a DNS issue. I went ahead and changed the pointer from chat1.4x4evolution.com to 69.15.25.124, that should work until I can get the ISP to make the change (they only do changes M-F 8-5).

I also added your server as well.

If you would not mind, please let me know if the changes do not work (I really do not remember if I need to bounce it to make it work, but I -think- it should be instantaneous). I will get the DNS setting changed next week, and revert it back.

"chat1.4x4evolution.com" resolves to 69.15.25.122 which is your Evo2 irc server. There are still people who play this game on DC, but we can't log in now because the game is Evo1. The chat server in your DC backend.txt should resolve to 69.15.25.124 I believe. I'm not sure what hostname you use for that. Also, I have my own 4x4 Evo1 chat server which I'm hosting for a Dreamcast community at http://dreamcast-talk.com/forum/news.php . I don't know if this is something you would do, but I was wondering if you could also add this to your dc backend.txt. Here's the info for my server:

irc:dctalk.no-ip.info:6667 1234 "Dreamcast-Talk DC Evo1"

At the least though, if you could get the official Terminal Reality Evo1 setup again for Dreamcast that would be good.

4x4 evo doesn't really have a master server. It downloads a .txt file from their web server every time you connect from here: http://master.4x4evolution.com/4x4evo1- ... ackend.txt As you can see it is accessible, so the issue is on your end. However, the only hostnames they have which work still are master.4x4evolution.com and master2.4x4evolution.com, the master3-5 don't work.

hmm... i let it try and connect to the various master lists for about 5 minutes or so, and nothing. PSO and web browsing work fine, any suggestions ?

How do you connect? If you're not using regular dial up, what kind of router do you have? I've had issues with blocked packets in 4x4 and starlancer using a D-Link router.

Netopia R2020 and a teltone TLS-3B i set up using your guide, thanks for that BTW, it works great so far. I'm getting starlancer in the next couple of days and will see how that works.

I have a linksys WRT54GL router running tomato firmware.

Check your router logs when its trying to contact the server to see if anything strange is going on. 4x4 sometimes takes a long time to connect because like i said 3 of the hostnames it tries to contact to don't work anymore. If it failed to contact all 5 hostnames and it went back to the screen that asks to retry connecting then theres a problem though.
