Yeah it was live. Honestly, it was just Craig dying repeatedly and yelling at someone off camera to find Super Turrican so they could compare the games.

However, here is Jared's harsh review of the game:

Just finished seeing the video review. I hate to admit it but I completely agree with their arguments of the game. There is def a feeling of mediocrity to game for a neo geo product. I will play Gunlord a bit more, but I will always go back to Fast Striker.

what a retarded review! the whole point of the game is to investigate what enemies you should kill and which ones help you get to secrets... the screen is too busy?? sounds like a whiny casual gamers opinion to me... fucks me off when people come up with shit like this. I can admit that its not pushing the dreamcast to its limits technically and it obviously is an indi production but wtf?? what a nob

Actually sometimes it does feel like there is too much on screen and I'm not talking about just enemies and their bullets. Eveything blends a lil too much with the game's levels My first runthroughs of the game were tough and very cautionary. I couldn't tell on many of the game levels what was what (what are enemies, what are power ups and how they work, what are simply level effects that do nothing etc). In this respect I blame NGDev for not providing enough info on the games mechanics and enemy types thru either an introductory demo (much like they did with FS) or simply through the games booklet (I recall a member making similar complaint about a lack of info via the game manual). The video reviews complaint of improper music loops is a valid point, one that I agree with 100%. It really kills the mood of the game for me when the music stops briefly to re-loop. It really hurts the grand scheme of such a great soundtrack!
As a matter of fact, there is another major gripe I have with this game that wasn't mentioned in this video review. And that is the lack of a proper "Quit Game" ability via the pause menu. Instead NG Dev saw it fit to provide an annoying "Restart Game". I perfer the former 100 times more.

thats exactly my point, its indi, its not going to be 100% perfect, and its a blatant tribute to oldschool shooters, I don't think the level design is at all hard to work out in terms of what to kill and what not, its not like its a bad thing to run around shooting t everything. theres a point in the first level when you drop down to the cave section, theres a 1 up where you can't get to, if you go for it you die, but you have to learn that the green spikey enemies that hang to the ceiling can be used as a floating platform to go down and get it... to me its ingeniusly designed. and I don't think those minor issues should be a factor when you consider the minor number of games the dc gets... i just think we should be grateful and not so picky/fussy

I hear ya man, but just because its an indie game shouldn't absolve it from a certain level of quality.

And what would that point be?
Like I mentioned above, Just because the game is of an indie production doesn't mean the game should be gauged with some sort of leniency... Or should it!? NG Dev's price of admission for Gunlord is that of a full retail game and as such, I expect a certain level of polish which reflects that price tag... this is really my only major gripe here! I'm not expecting perfection, just a well assembled and polished product. It just feels a bit rushed (quite buggy, a bit too much recycled audio in the FX dept, and issues that while minuscule in the grand scheme of things, could have of been addressed to help the overall experience). I understand the game is an homage to its respective "Run n Gun" genre but take a second to remember at their last release Fast Striker. It was one of my favorite Dreamcast games in ITS respective genre (Comercial or otherwise)! I wish I could say same for Gunlord.
and I don't think those minor issues should be a factor when you consider the minor number of games the dc gets... i just think we should be grateful and not so picky/fussy
I am greatful! I bought the game didn't I. But i ain't gonna fool myself and declare praiseworthy for a game that does not deserve it.
3 possible releases scheduled this year for Dreamcast. We got the 1 offering of those 3. I'm pretty sure those other 2 upcoming titles will surpass anything Gunlord offers, because quite frankly there isn't much to the game... that's not saying much for what the future holds for those upcoming releases when Gunlord is involved... and that really pains me to say

I dont think £30 or so is a lot to pay for a brand new game on my favourite console 10 years after it was closed down, I can understand what your saying and agree that, at least from someone like NG Dev there should be a certain level of professionalism in the project but at the end of the day they aren't activision or Bioware, and even those guys make mistakes or let bugs slip through... come on guys just be happy what got a good, fun, different game for the DC ;)
