Finally fulfilled a teenage dream! (sort of...)

Post by rjay63 »

I used to play a lot of lightgun games in the arcade circa 1997-2003 and always dreamed of having my own cabinet. Sadly the high cost (even for old titles) and the fact they wouldn't fit through my front door without being dismantled meant my dream remained exactly that. However today I finally managed to get my set-up together for Time Crisis 2 & 3 link play....

My set-up is basically two old PS2's, a set of matching cabinets with perfect height (47"), two big old school CRT's and a Firewire cable. Oh...and an ironing board

Total cost around £150-£200 for everything (items bought over many years). Hopefully I'll be enjoying some link-up play with a friend on Time Crisis 2 & 3 shortly! Shame no DC or XBOX lightgun titles allow separate screens but two-player on the 28" will suffice! ;)

Nice setup!

I also wish I had the cash(and the extra space) for some arcade machines...

I would kill for some old Metal Slug arcade machines...

Fantastic setup! I wish more games worked with LAN for consoles! Having an arcade machine is great, but takes up A LOT of room. I have a Neo-Geo MVS and that thing takes up so much space (totally worth it though).

Awesome setup! I guess you needed to look carefully to buy the right PS2 for this setup since the link-up mode uses the i-link/firewire from the old model PS2 fat right?

I've been playing my DC stuff standing up lately... closest I can get to an 'arcade cab' for now haha.

Wombat:

Yes, only the "Fat" PS2's have the i-link option. My i-link games are:

Armored Core 2
Gran Turismo 3 & Gran Turismo Concept 2000
Time Crisis 2 & 3
Tokyo Road Racer (Battle Gear)

I know Wiki states later Armored Core games can use i-link but the PAL box covers don't mention this.

I also have 2 original XBOX's linked by crossover cable for LAN play. Loads of titles have system link but particularly looking forward to Crimson Skies, Outrun 2006 and Timesplitters Future Perfect action! Both consoles are modded so no need to buy a second copy of the game!

Wish Dreamcasts could be linked up so easily. :(

Nice, what arcade stick is that?...it's a monster!! I hope to have another 3 X CRT TV set-up (2 x 21" TV's and 1 x 25") for my XBOX and Dreamcast consoles. Just need to find a table strong enough to withstand their weight! I do own a HD monitor (using it for this computer) but prefer CRT screens for old school consoles.

oh that stick is actually a PS2 Hori stick -- it's the Tekken 5 stick which is basically an HRAP without the Sanwas. I definitely prefer the DC Agetec stick, but I keep a PS2 stick around because I have adapters to use it on lots of other consoles.

Here is my Neo-Geo MVS (it needs some work, I know). I've got Uni-bios 3.0 in it, and it runs like a charm. I have sanwa parts and they are GREAT!!! If was always a dream of mine to own a cab, and I couldn't be happier with a Neo-Geo!

OK, did a quick video showcasing all my lightgun titles. You can see how the height of the cabinets is just right :) A couple of DC shooters are near the end...
