4x4 Evolution Master Server List Down?

Ok, so last Game Night (last Wednesday) I was getting this error when trying to connect with 4x4 Evolution: "DNS error resolving master.4x4evolution.com". I didn't think much of it then as I figured it was probably temporary. Now I just tried it again today and I'm getting the same error. I'm now worried that the Master Server List might be down permanently. I did hear a while back that GameSpy was shutting down servers for older games so this might be one of them. I fairly certain it's not just me as nothing has changed on my network since I last played. I can't confirm it though until someone else tests it.

I tried to run nslookup on master.4x4evolution.com and got no answer, so it would seem that it is no longer a valid domain. Using a rigged DNS server (or CB code to patch the address) would be required to connect to a private server in the future, if that's the case.

I thought terminal reality hosted it themselves ? brourke228 had a converstation with them about something to do with the online service a couple of years back IIRC.

Hmmm, not looking good then. Thanks for confirming it Aleron! Hopefully someone can get a workaround up and running. I'll have to remove the game from Game Night for the time being.

Yeah it looks like their dns is down but their server is still up. Their ip address for Evo1 is 69.15.25.124. The DC backend txt is located at http://69.15.25.124/4x4evo1-dc-english-backend.txt . I will try contacting them. If they dont respond we can always make our own hostname to direct the game to their ip address.

I will keep the DNS server up permanently, but be aware that my IP address changes every so often and that is out of my control. The current ip address can be found next to the DC-Talk servers on this page: http://dreamcast-talk.com/forum/q3master.php

If you want, I can put that in Sylverant's DNS so that you don't have to worry about the IP changing on you.

Sure, may as well. I wanted to set this up to connect to our quake3 master server as well though. So I am gonna need to update that zone entry if my ip address changes anyhow. Since I dont think its possible to use cname to forward master.quake3arena.com directly to my hostname. Unless you have dynamic dns setup? lol

No, I don't have DDNS setup on it. We could try the CNAME setup, but I don't know anything about q3a to have any clue whether it will work or not, unfortunately.

Send me a list of what things I should add to my DNS and where they should point and I'll update it.
